As by my nickname i am only new to collecting wine i thought i would sharemy recent auction purchase list. I tried to get a broad mix of different styles and price points. My favourites are shiraz but am trying different varietys after a recent pleasurable experience with a pinot grigio by illze wines. So what do you think of my purchases any standouts?

some recent additions to my cellar
Hi there & welcome to the forum - pretty impressive list of langtons purchases there! I've certainly got to hand it to you for going in at the deep end at full bore - when I started, I'd agonize over which bottle, which vintage, whether 4 or 6 might be too many, am I paying too much, etc etc. But here you are, having spent well over 3K to get 42 bottles of shiraz and 2 bottles of cabernet.
Jasper Georgia's is one of my all time favourites - in a recent vertical tasting, my impressions of the 2002:
"opaque, almost black in colour; subtle nose, with a bit of earthiness and complexity already present; chalky tannins, somewhat backward, almost austere on the palate, maybe in its dumb phase - certainly both the 2004 and 2000 tasted at the same time appeared far more generous than this vintage"
From experience, in another few years the 2002 is likely to blossom and show far more than it did on this occasion. I believe it has great promise.
Sure hope you like it, having just bought two dozen - what will you do if it's not to your taste?
You posted that you "tried to get a broad mix of different styles and price points" - perhaps not so evident on this occasion, why not lash out at the next auction opportunity, get a bottle or two of Rutherglen durif, Hunter semillon, Mornington pinot, or try Symphonia wines for Saperavi, Tannat, Arneis or Petit Manseng, really live on the wild side

thanks heaps mark appreciate the reply. Well i did try to get a few different styles of shiraz I will take be purchasing some of the varietys you mentioned with my next purchase.
I am attending a few tasting dinners in sydney in the coming months were i will be looking out for a few pinot varietys and also some semillion for my cellar. I have storage for 160 bottles at this stage so am looking to try and fill it by christmas to show off to all whom come to my place for christmas. Nothing better than a well stocked full cellar .
Through most of the shiraz i purchased some are tough and some are yet to realise there full potential and so on. I have tasted several of the jasper hill georgia creek shiraz's as well and agree with you i think the 2002 will need to have at least another three years in my cellar to become on par with the 2000 I am putting myself on the line with this one but when i tasted it (2002) vintage about three weeks ago i did like what i tasted it suits my tastes and will be cellaring this to drink the first dozen and sell the second. Hopefully the prices i paid are relative to the value of these wines. From all the research i have conducted it does seem that way.
I recieved a call by the sales for glaezter wines regarding Amon Ra and Gadolphin quite high price wine . But have not had a chance to taste it yet so am reluctant to purchase. I have read only good things about these wines. any thoughts? he said it is only on allocation but they had a few left for mailing list customers.

Why limit yourself to auctions?
Gavin and other on-line retailers have some great new releases at friendly prices. Plus you are certain of their condition and where they come from and how they have been stored.
Nothings more exciting than to buy a few wines on release and like them and find out 6 months later that Winefront, Halliday, Oliver et al agree with you in no uncertain terms.
With a deep pocket like that I hope you stay away from any auction items I want, I wouldn't have a hope.

Re the Amon Ra and Godolphin, truly superb wines, in my view some of the best Australia produces, particularly in being deliciously approachable at a young age. You should get some.
