If you had to choose a Champagne/Sparkling on short notice to $100, what would you choose?

Champagne, always been a Veuve boy myself. But I do like the Bolly Grand Annee (just over the $100 but)
Red sparkles, well the Leasingham CC 1996 has really got my attention at the moment.

Champers - Roederer NV for me. At a much cheaper level I've been happy with Pelorus Vintage, though I acknowledge it's not to everyones taste.

My fave NV champagne is probably Bollinger or maybe Billecart-Salmon.
I do also enjoy Joseph Sparkling Red

I was quite impressed with the 1998 laurent perrier vintage recently and it is under the $100 barrier. Quite complex at the price

Grand Annee is nearly $200 now Davo..
I'd pick any of the following
NV Billecart Salmon Rose
98 Pol Roger
Taittinger
2 bottles of NV Lanson Black Label..
Could be more helpful if you gave us some style direction - off dry, yeasty complex, delicate and fresh, floral, weighty etc?

Roederer NV or Bollinger NV. Both have a lot of flavour and style when compared to their peers. The last couple of bottles of Veuve I've had haven't blown my socks off.

Yep... Vintage Pol or Taittinger, or 96 Lanson.
Otherwise, get a Chandon Blanc de Blanc, hoping the 2003 is as good as the 2002, and buy 3.
Bollinger NV only if you are sure you like the style.
Gee, I have not had the NV Billecart Salmon Rose for a while. I would actually go that today.

Of the big names :-
If you like the full bodied style and plan an appertif I like Roederer NV. In the more elegant spectrum Pol Roger NV provides what I like (1999 vintage Pol also good). Billecart Salmon NV has huge variation (guess frehsness/storage) from what I've experienced.
For rose, Gosset Rose NV is fantastic and close to half the price of Billecart Salmon rose. Gosset 1999 is also fantastic drinking right now (prefer from white wine glass than flute - try it before you laugh).
Egly Ouriet Grand Cru Brut Tradition NV is also great in an oakier, richer style.
If you like the yeasty, fruity style then Duval Leroy Premier Cru NV is worth a try.
Personal choice really

Great roundup roo... and I have experienced the variation in Billecarte NV too, although I too have found that the Roederer NV has a bit blocky acid that would appreciate time.

Good point about what style I like, defintaley in the creamy, yeasty spectrum. So where does this lead us? Anyone tried the Gosset NV about $70/bottle, does that fit the bill or can I do better?

There aren't any on the retail market to buy, at least not without brett! (1993, 91,90). 1994 all gone.

i'd go a Pol Roger also for something french ,otherwise, we quite like the NV Bay of Fires "Tigress" Sparkling Rose ex Tasmania, lovely sparkling, and not too expensive either. Bay of Fires also do a real top end vintage sparking white, never tried it though.

Delamotte Blanc de Blanc 1997 is worth a try also, if you like the 100% Chardonnay style.
