2005 Godolphin/Amon Ra offered me today - any TNs?

Post by Nigel Bruce »

Just been offered the 2005 Godolphin - I saw a barrel sample reported some days back, but both Godolphin and Amon-Ra samples said to be open a long time. Is this vintage not yet released?

The '04 St Pete looks fantastic but personally I prefer the Seppelt Mt Ida over the Benno in 2004.....the '96 Show Reserve Sparkling look very good too

I reported on both of these wines with and without extended exposure to air.

In summary, the Amon Ra looked very impressive with air-time, and the Godolphin didn't. Compared with the 04's my gut feeling is that the 05 Amon Ra is similar in quality and style (perhaps more muscular), while the 05 Godolphin may be less voluptuous (a touch lighter in body and firmer in structure) and didn't impress me as much as the 04.

If you have been offered these already then it is most likely a pre-release order system.

The 96 Show Reserve - gawd, it IS going to be an expensive month. Drooling already!

I had both the 04 and 05 Godolphin over the past few days. While I thought the 04 was excellent, the 05 was out of this world. Everything I want in a wine - flavour (though not OTT), budding complexity, length and the most amazing, velvety mouthfeel I've had in a long time.
