Mt Ida & Fosters
Mt Ida & Fosters
Can anyone explain why some retailers have yet to hear from Fosters on the latest Mt Ida release - but are quoting $50 when is does arrive - and Dan's are saying they have it for $39??
How does this all work?

It seems Seppelt supporters (retail) are being snubbed in favour of Dan's and the like - so those who helped to rebuild the non existent Seppelt brands over the last five years are now being shafted!!
Arthur O'Connor is gone, integrity is gone and I fear next quality will be gone in the massive system that is Fosters.....give it 2-3 years.

To quote an Arthurism, I think you are smoking crack and I am quite sure that the crew left at Seppelts will continue to produce wines of exceptionaly high quality, as they have with the 2004 St Peters, benno, 05 Jaluka and drumborg and 06 drumborg just to mention a few.
In terms of the Mt Ida release, I am reliably informed that no one has 2004 Mt Ida and rumour has it that the few bottles that have been sold through Dans are tasting stocks that were not supposed to be sold.
needless to say I think that you can rest assureed in the knowledge that Seppelt wines are in good hands and will continue to improve

Cannot comment about the making of these wines into the future, but I can confirm that Fosters are very much in danger of alienating their retail customers.
No details, but they have become very hard to deal with, with unreliable information, differing stories, promises not kept and more. This is affecting all their labels, Seppelt not the least!!
Just a retailer's 2 cents worth.

Can you provide some evidence to support your argument - any evidence? Distribution and brand management is initially at risk here. The Mamre Cab debacle last year is another Fosters special...when did you start working at Seppelt? Why do people on forums always descend into personal abuse and then back the comments up with pure opinion?

It does seem a surprising 1st post, right in at the deep end! - to which I can only assume you are:
a) a forum regular seeking anonymity for comments (but to be fair, forum regulars treat each other with respect, so no need for anonymity)
or
b) An employee of Fosters, or other such interest (as such it would be fair to acknowledge your interest).
This doesn't mean you're not entitled to your opinion - far from it, but it would be appreciated if you were to add some clarification if appropriate.

Mt Ida Shiraz 2004
Seems its not only DM that has this wine.
I picked some up from 1st Choice this week for $37. They also matched DM for the St Peters 04 at $48.

Not so sure about that. I know of at least 3 others who have picked up 6 packs.
cheers,

Geez Bert, we each know each other exists, no drama mate.
Seppelt/Fosters, hopeless, they are either incompetent or lying to me, or both?

Obviously Fosters treat their employees the same as they do the independent retailers - like mushrooms!
Looks like the new marketing / distribution arrangements need a small amount of tweaking...
Or maybe they work on the outdated principle that "any publicity is good publicity"?
Cheers

Life's too short to drink white wine and red wine is better for you too! :-)

Maybe you should bring up the Melbourne offline subject on Bert's forum Gavin? You may get a lot more interest.

Ian, I don't think the issue is crossforumisation (I swear thats a word!) I think the fact that Gavin is staying up in the sticks it makes it very hard to co-ordinate for me anyway, but I'd suggest a few others.

In the sticks literally, right in the Sherbrook forest in fact.
Lovely spot, just not close to the CBD.
Shame bert, I would have loved to let you buy me a dinner!

Adair, that's an easy one.
Public pressure. Indeed the wine is now available to all and sundry. Too little too late for mine. Made good independents and ex-Seppelt supporters look silly whilst they bowed to the people that bastardised their brand. Weird way of doing business. Maybe the crack pipe really is doing the rounds.
