Melbourne visit

Post by Gavin Trott »

Hello

I'm going to find myself visiting Melbourne October 6th, 7th and 8th for a quick trip.

Any Melbourne wine lovers or forum members interested in a bit of an offline perhaps, a glass of something good, bite to eat etc?

Any takers? ANyone interested?
regards

The 5th is OK for me, have been planning an offline outing, seems like the perfect opportunity.

Hi Gavin - not long ago started going to offlines organized by the 'other mob' & enjoyed the experience muchly.

Would certainly be in it for the weekend you mention, 6th or 7th would be great - I've something old, fortified and hopefully excellent I could bring.

all the best, Mark S

Gavin,

I would be most interested in any of those days. I'll pull out all stops to make myself available if you'll have me. Just let me know what you wish me to bring: white, red, fortified, sparkling??. There's a few German rieslings that I've been dying to try at the right occasion, just to drop a slight hint.

Thanks to all those interested, we may make it a goer.

To those who asked, I will not be able to do any organisation, I am too far away and know too little about the Melbourne restaurants etc.

I'd love to meet some of your for a chat and a drink if there are enough interested people, and also if there can be a little orgnaisation done?

FWIW I'll be staying in the Dandenongs?

The 6th could be a go, although it'd have to be central to the city for me.

Does anyone have an opinion on the Metropolitan Hotel at Blackwood St, North Melbourne? I've dined there a couple o times and their rabbit rouliette and duck neck sausage starter is fantastic! I'm happy to make an enquiry, unless more suggestions are throw up. How many bottles are we talking about u think?

I'd be keen to go if there's space. I'm relatively new to both wine and the forum, but I can hopefully still come up with something interesting.

Hmm

Getting tricky??

I'm in the Dandenongs.

Will have a vehicle of course, but a huge drive with a load of wine inside me could be problematic.

Love to catch up with you all though if it can be arranged

Gavin,

Whereabouts in the Dandenongs? I'm in Upwey and would be most interested in an offline on one the dates mentioned.

Having 3 rugrats, I haven't been out much since we moved down here so I would be hoping somebody else could point us in the right direction food wise. I've been to Sacre Bleu in Olinda, and that's about it.

Gavin, are you not planning to come into the city area at all on those dates? If you are, then it's probably best that we organise something then, as a matter of convinience.

Kallista. Just up the road. Belgrave and Olinda are not far from there either.

We went to Genies in Kallista a few months ago (http://www.geniescafe.com.au/index.html). Nice little place, although I'm not sure how an offline would go there. Some people might like a bit more pizazz from their food when sharing some wines at an offline. It all depends what people want, but from your point of view Gavin, you'd be able to walk home!

How about Ranges at Olinda? Just a short cab trip from Kallista, and they're BYO too. Not too far from those in the outer eastern suburbs either.

How about Sat night 7 pm? Ranges?

I might even bring a Mount Ida shiraz...

Long distance committee meeting.

Ranges works great for me, of course.

Any other takers?

That's what I like Sean - somebody who takes the bull by the horns.

Count me in too. I'll check whether I will be solo or accompanied over the next week. I'll bring something big and brooding and red. If I'm accompanied, I'll see what else I should bring.

Don't rely on Melbourne public transport.

I was very disappointed by their pitiful train timetables last I was there. Obviously no one needs trains after midnight in Melbourne

Julie,

The only viable method is taxi. The 663 (Belgrave to Lilydale) has its last run at 6.35pm and other bus routes require mutliple changes and would take you hours. Or you could stay the night locally!
