Could be a Henshke but I'm guessing not.
Not a Tyrrells nothing sends that long in wood.
That leaves Best's Great Western or Tahbilk.

I'll guess Best's Thompson Family Shiraz

2 years in french allier oak plus indigenous grapes sounds like it must be an italian super tuscan, or some sthn italy IGT

barolo's are usually in slavian oak though some "new wave" do use small french oak

I think this is Chianti from that perky little chap...he was in Decanter a few issues ago. Can't just remember now.

Tedeschi: Amarone Capitel Monte Olmi?

Amarone
Not sure on my Italian families, but I thought Masi was family owned still, so I reckon it's a good guess. Quintarelli and Allegrini (is La Poja an Amarone sold as IGT?) are also possibilities.
Not sure about the vintages though as Amarone in 97 and 2000 is reckoned (as I understand it) to be better than the 3 vintages mentioned. Not impressed with the 98's I've tried, especially the Tedeschi

I'll plump for Masi Costasera, but something makes me think they might have been selling commercially for longer. (edit) also 8000 bottles a year sounds too low

A final off the wall guess, if the style comment refers to the appassimento, then Sfursat Valtellina "5 stelle" might be possible (I know it uses barriques)

regards

Ian

Well done on getting onto the Italian theme so quickly. The answer was Tedeschi Capitel Monte Olmi Amarone with Jay getting there first.
