Winter Creek shiraz 2004

Post by parb »

I bought a six pack of this on the back of a few positive reviews here and there. Generally, I try not to do this, but the news coming in about the 04' barossa vintage and said reviews, I took a punt.

1st bottled opened about a month ago was not what I expected.
Heaps of alcohol poured from the glass, almost having to wade through it to taste the wine. 1st sip & thought they had mis-labelled the damn thing. All I could get was lots of candied 'Grenache' like flavours & again heaps of VA. Even the next day, no better

2nd bottled opened last night, hoping the 1st was a dud. Exactly the same. Pure lolly water grenache again!!!!!!

I guess this brings home the old saying...try before you buy. At $30 each, not a well spent $150 for me

Anyone else tried this wine? Have I got a dud batch, or is this really what an an 04 winter creek Barossa shiraz tastes like. It certainly dosen't match any of the descriptors I read from a couple of reviews. I tasted not a hint of the following;

"aromatic and varietal mixed spices, touches of white pepper, a little vanilla, moccha and a jumble of fruits, dark cherries, plums, blackberries and more"

Wow, I suspect a couple of bad bottles, this wine is nothing like this, not at all Grenache like, not high alcohol at all (only 14%).

Its long and refined and structured.

Others who have tried this wine, is this how you found it?

Hi David Cross from Winter Creek. I am concerned that you did not find the bottles as others have seen them and am at a loss to explain how you found them. I must say each bottle of the many I have opened have been consistant and I will leave it up to others to comment.

However can you let me know how I can replace all the bottles purchased. More than happy to do this.
