Dalwhinnie advice?

Post by Alan Rath »

Wondering if anyone has done a recent vertical tasting of Dalwhinnie Shiraz, to include 95-98 vintages? I had the 96 a couple of years ago, and it was superb, wondering what the others are like at the moment.

And is there a difference between the "Victoria" designation, and "Pyrenees"?

Thanks for any info,
Alan

97 is drink or hold. Going well. I have had three bottles in the last 12 months.

93 and 94 are both just OK. Mid-80's and certainly drink now. The shiraz is the Geelong FC of wines- vastly over-rated.

Not sure if you asking about the label printing, or just general geography. I presume all Dalwhinnie bottles say "Pyrenees" on them. Pyrenees is to Victoria as St Estephe is to Bordeaux...
cheers,

Under modern Australian label law, if a geographic region of origin is stated then at least 85% of the fruit must be sourced from that region. So, for example, a geographic indicator of "South Australia" may include fruit from the Clare Valley, Coonawarra, and the Riverland - they're all in South Australia! - but something labelled as "Clare Valley" must have 85% of the fruit from the Clare Valley.

Same for Victoria...
