I'm not so sure guys.
If someone calls "spam" I try to look at the previous posts by the author and I see no real evidence to suggest a "fly-by spammer". I may be wrong, but I'm prepared to look stupid (I've had plenty of years experience in both  )

OK the request for 24 bottles of 98 HOG and 6 of the 2000 Grange was a little odd (hell I wouldn't want even one of that Grange unless it was going for $50 a bottle or less). Odd, in that someone who's declared to be a relative novice, should be spending up big on such wines. Undoubtedly there's a fair explanation, though I don't believe swig needs to provide an answer unless he/she wishes to.

To paraphrase Tom on a recent UK winepages forum thread ... I'd hate to see a genuine new member being unfairly accused, as much as I'd hate to see a spammer tolerated.

swig: assuming this is indeed an innocent posting, apologies that this has been raised - this board has suffered a few times with spammers and we're all a little intolerant of such people (mainly because we respect the kind and generous hosting of this forum by Gavin). It's often new folk that get questioned, not because of a clique atmosphere, but because most spammers commit the deed within their first few posts. If you're able to clarify that you have no commercial or social link to this company, then that would be appreciated.

In addition, as Gavin is running a commercial site, most of us feel it is inappropriate to include links to a competitor, so I'd recommend you use the edit facility to remove the link and just refer to the company in words, which would be more appropriate.

Finally, I'd like to add that Gavin runs a very good operation, with a great emphasis on boutique producers, so don't forget to check his range out as well.

regards

Ian

I thought it best to ask abot associaton before calling spam, as swig has posted before about visiting or buying vineyards in mudgee, and this simply shiraz crowd smell to me - theres a legal looking document at the back, but theres no info at all on who is behind it, what type of entity it is, and theres no ABN or ACN on the whole website.

I cant tell whether this is a spam-like promotion or a genuine question from someone who's noticed the same deficiencies I have.

Sorry for any confusion

I have no connection to the said organisation, just wanting to hear any feedback from those in the know as i am quite new to all of this! The HOG and Grange was bought on behalf of a collegeaue and shipped to Asia, as stated i am a novice and thought that i may be able to pick up some valuable information from this sight and its members rather than being accused for "spamming"
I will endevour to remove/edit my original post!

thanks Swig, theres a history of spamming on this board, we're a tad suspicious sometimes!

my second response stands then - perhaps it is legitimate, the website looks pretty but:

they dont name the organiser at all
there is no clue about the entity's legal or financial structure
no ABN or ACN; BUT
they put a couple of pages of legalese and an application form on the site!

its a bit inconsistent for me,

AB
