Advice on a couple Henschkes?

Post by Alan Rath »

Wondering if anyone can offer opinions (OK, informed opinions) on 1999 Henschke Cyril Cab, and 2000 Mt. Edelstone?

Thanks for any help,
Alan

1999 cyril is a lovely wine indeed with a good balance of fruit and oak predominately berry and current. Compared to 1998, this is certainly not as full bodied, but still a pretty big wine.

2000 Mt Edelstone, No Hill of Grace made in 2000 so Mt edelstone has some of the hill of grace grape in it. It is not a particular good vintage in Barossa Valley. The wine is still lovely made, however the intensity of fruit is some what lighter for the Mt edelstone standard. Plum and berry on the palate.

2000 ME is quite disappointing by ME's lofty standards. That having been said, many Barossa / Eden Valley wines from 2000 are ordinary !
