Most terrible wine: E&E Black Pepper 2001
Who is Hardy trying to kid? At $90 (RR$), this has got to be worst super-premium wine in the market. Don't get me wrong, I've been a fan of this label since 1994 and some of their vintages like 94 & 96 were Grange beater. Despite of a hot vintage in 2001, this Black Pepper is extremely elegant, shallow and short. Won't even pay $30 bucks for it after tasting.

Most overpriced wine: Saltram 8thMaker 2001
All hype and no delivery. At $200 this gotta be the most overprice wine in the market. Being a big fan of Nigel Dolan, I like most of his labels but this wine just didnt cut it to justified the hefty tag. The nose was fine, the palate was suprisingly lacking in stuffings and low on intensity(I expected fireworks), fruits were sweet verging to overipeness and the lenght is mediocre. At best a good $60 wine. Their stablemate, Platinum Shiraz 2002 left it bitting dust drank side by side.

Disagree with you on the '01 Black Pepper being the most terrible wine of the year. Found it to be very nice (not worth $90, but we aren't talking about the overpriced category). Suspect you got a bad bottle.

Surely the 8th Maker isn't the most overpriced. What about a little known label that goes by the name 2000 Penfolds Grange @ $450 pb. THAT is the most overpriced. The sooner Penfolds adopt a similar approach to the Bordelaise (high prices only in great years), the better (though I guess in their defence, charge what the market will bear).

Slipped of the tongue, "terrible" quality becos of the RR$ and how can this icon falled fr grace despite of a Big Red Vintage in Barossa.

Chris Ringland's 2000 vintage of Three River's has to beat both the 8th Maker and the 2000 Grange for the most overpriced wine. At +$500 per bottle and with Parker giving it just 90 points (3 points lower than the 2000 Grange), I can see this flying off the shelves!
