Deep, rich, dark cab fruit, cassis, hints of leather, herbs, smoke, soy, a touch of oak showing, moderate/medium fine grained tannins, can't wait to drink this in 10+ years. A beautiful rendition of Cabernet in a New World, yet classic style.
Went back and read Ric's review of this wine, and it was a perfect description. I already had a couple bottles, but had the chance to grab some more at US$ 23 each. 6 to put away, one to sample now - I'll be trying to get some more tomorrow Tomorrow night: 2000 Dalwhinnie Shiraz at US$ 17. Christmas comes early here in California!

Alan,
Never saw it for this cheap while we were there!!! Great price. By the way the 2001 vintage is a better wine, and is available at Wine Exchange, although I do not think it was US$23 per bottle.
Could the $23 wine be something lower on the Moss Wood ladder than the big one? The top wine is generally about $A90 (give or take $15).
There is the Amy's, the Glenmore, and the Ribbon Vale cabernets (or cab. merlots). All are fine wines, some are just finer than others
Yep, it's the top wine. Special one-time closeout deal, don't know why, didn't ask. All I know is that the wine is in perfect condition. Given the parallel discussion going on about Parker taking Mt Mary out to the woodshed, it's interesting to read his note on the Moss Wood: "The ripe 2000 Cabernet Sauvignon displays a style somewhere between a Pauillac and St.-Emilion. A dense purple color is accompanied by aromas of black currants, tobacco, licorice, and French oak. Spicy and medium to full-bodied, with considerable depth and richness, it can be drunk now and over the next 10-15 years" 91 points, Aug 2003. I have to say, this isn't a bad description at all, although I would personally rate it higher in points than he does.

Alan,
I wonder what points he would have given it if he had tasted it blind ??...Or better still, blind in a Bdx lineup ?
...But then I'm sure the label would have had absolutely no impact on his rating!!

Pretty much agree with RPJ's review but I wouldn't rate it so high - probably 89/100 for mine. Much prefer other vintages of Moss Wood like 1999 and 2001. Horses for courses
