Has any body tried pennies 707 2002?
Any comments? ($65.00 a bottle).
Penfolds are marketing a 'collectors' box (wooden) with;
1 bottle bin28 (00)
1 bottle bin 128 (01)
1 Bin 389 (01)
and 1 st Henrys (00)
this comes with a Reidel glass etched with Penfolds insignia.
ALl this for $99.00
or I can get 12 02 389's for $16:00 a bottle.
Any comments / advice?
I have a bottle of 97 and 98 707 in the cellar but have yet to taste either.
Cheers,
Mick.

"Compromises are for relationships, not wine."
Mick, avoid the odds-and-sods in the wooden box, some ordinary vintages there.
Go for the 389 02, it's a welcome return to form and a bargain at $16, it's $A34 or more case price here.
The 707 2002 is a very good wine too and at that price good value, it's over $A100 here on special, usually $120+.
If they were these sort of prices in Oz I'd buy some myself.

Life's too short to drink white wine and red wine is better for you too! :-)

Thanks guys,
A case of '02 389 it is then. I was a bit suspect on the 'special' box as it was a bit gimmicky. I've only tried the '01 389 and thought it was pretty good.
by the way there is some '03 dead arm for $55.00 that seemed too good to be true?
Mick.

The 2002 Bin 707 is great if you like sweet oak being the predominant feature - did any of the great 707s up to 1991 show anywhere this extent of heavyhanded timber at the time they were released?
Like the others I'd stick to case of 2002 Bin 389 which is a good one (it's the only one of the 2002 Bin series I've bothered to buy) at what looks to be a great price. As mentioned avoid the odds & sods box with the additional lesser vintages.
Cheers,
Ian
