Not sure if you were particularly looking for current vintage stuff Sean?

Best Oz Shiraz I have had this year is the 01 Clonakilla Shiraz Viognier (is that cheating?).

My best cheapie is the 04 Mr Riggs the Gaffer.

Funny you should mention that.

The red bigots and myself intend on wading thru a metric shitload of o2 Shiraz at the end of the month.
Will keep you posted.

Best sub$25 is Seppelt 03 Chalambar, lots of daylight to second. Special mention to Hardys 04 Oomoo, excellent @$11.

Best >$25, can't think of any (assuming that full bottle consumption is a pre-requisite), unless the Seppelt 94' sparklung Shiraz counts

Cheers,
Parb

Couldn't limit it too just one so here is the top three for me this year per category:

Best Sub $25 Shiraz:

2004 Red Nectar
2004 Teusner The Riebke
2004 Kalleske Clarry's Red (like platinum it does have shiraz in it  - we have gone through over a case of this stuff so far!)

Best Over $25 Shiraz:

2002 Runrig (tried at the winery with larger than life Dave - definitely need to buy/find some of this)
2003 Schubert Gooseyard Block
2003 Killikanoon Oracle Shiraz (Just knocked out the 2002 Wirra Wirra RSW for a place in the top three ... great wine with a long life in front of it)
Cheers

Cabernet is ... and will always be ... KING!

All the wines I drink tend to be below $25 so the best two I had this year would have been:

2003 Auswine Reserve Cleanskin
2003 Seppelt Chalambar
Cheers,
Craig

The best young red under $25 I have drunk for a long time is Claymore Wines Dark Side of the Moon Shiraz 2003.

I tried this as part of a degustation dinner a couple of months ago and was so impressed that I bought several cases there and then.

I have since drunk a few bottles at home and it impresses me every time.

I love cooking with wine. Sometimes I even put it in the food.

Best current release under $25 Shiraz for me is the Clonakilla '04 Hilltops that just sneaks into the price point if you shop around.

Best over $25 for me is without doubt 02 Run Rig (best young Aussie wine I've had in years).

As for under $25, not much over here. As soon as the words "Australian" and "shiraz" appear on the same label, the price goes through the roof. If I was pushed, it might be the 02 Bin 28 (Penfolds). Definitely not a great Bin 28 though.

The best Shiraz I've had this year is (still) the 2003 Kalleske Johan Georg.

Notable mentions must also go to:
2002 St Peters,
2003 Yering Station Reserve Shiraz Viognier,
2002 Charles Cimicky The Autograph.

The best under $25 would probably be the 2002 Grant Burge Filsell.

Cheers,
Ian
