RB's - don't look !!!!!!!

Post by Gianna »

Well, maybe the reputation will be irreperably (is that how it is spelt ?) damaged after this post, but gee these wines were damn good.

1999 Leewin Estate Art Series Chardonnay
A first class chardonnay.
The nose was full of honey, melon and floral fragrances whilst the palate was a mixture of creamy oak, butterscotch and cashews. Well balanced, no astringent flavours and a luschious texture. A Great wine.

2000 Pierro Chardonnay
A totally different experience to the LEAS. Much tighter, zestier and minerally.
Quite a complex chardonnay that exhibited layers of concentrated fruit but yet very subtle flavours at the same time. The front palate was crisp and fruity that followed through to a nutty aftertaste. The only negative was a underlying taste of grapefruit that I just didn't quite like. Really good, but not as great as the LEAS.

NOTE: I had this bottle in the fridge for 3 weeks, so maybe that affected the bottle, so I will open another soon and test.

Margaret River must be one the unsung heroes of Australian wine regions.
LEAS, Cullen, MS, Pierro, Voyager, HP, Devil's Lair etc etc...
Does it rank 2nd to Barossa for Australia's best wine region ????? !! :?:

Also had a beautiful reisling ( 1997 Peter Lehmann Reserve ) last week which was stunning.

Sorry Bigots, but it's approaching summer and the reds are just a bit too heavy once the temparature tops 20c...
At every turn, it pays to challenge orthodox ways of thinking

Gianna, thanks for the warning, but "TN: Some MR Chardonnays" would have done the trick even better. ;-)

A third through Spring and a flood of whites already, what a wimp!

I here Sauv Blanc is big amongst white-drinkers this Spring, or at least that's what all the marketing hype says. I guess it gives the marketers a change from flogging the "riesling renaissance" again.
Cheers
Brian
Life's too short to drink white wine and red wine is better for you too! :-)

Hard to say it's unsung, but to say it's "second" to anywhere in aus must be your way of having a joke, non?.....
