How many Magnums do you have in your cellar?
How many Magnums do you have in your cellar?
I've only got 3.
1998 Leasingham Bin 61 Shiraz
1999 Lillydale Vineyards Cabernet Merlot
1999 Coldstream Hills Pinot Noir (Will be drinking this over Christmas)
However, having read many TN's on this forum where "I wish there was more left in the bottle" sentiment, I was thinking that perhaps I'll buy more to avoid disappointment when you open that magical bottle and it just wasn't enough.
Cheers

Typically at dinners I have found it is more interesting to open something else rather than worry that you have run out of something and you wouldn't have with a magnum. I'm only buying magnums for the kids birth years - so far have 5 2002 magnums for number one might buy a couple more. Don't yet have any 2005 magnums but I'm on the look out.

Thanks,

Craig, you left out "much", before "more", at least at the premium end of the market. The pricing is set by whatever the market will bear, people who want to cellar wine a long time seem willing to pay the premium, so the practice continues.
There are additional costs for a magnum, but not enough to explain the difference any other way.

Should be a few fun parties to be had with these.

Frankly I have way too many @#*%ing magnums for my own good! The cellar is running out of space not surprisingly as a result.
The (official) reason why would be that for some reason every wine I've tried from a magnum has been better than a 750ml.
Then again maybe it's a compensation thing - the bigger the size of the bottle the smaller the member of the owner!
At least I don't own any imperials!

Nepenthe Hungry Ground Cab Sav 00
Taylors Cab 01
2x Crofters Cab Merlot 99
Centenary of Federation 99
I think that's all. Most came free with dozens. The Nepenthe was about $25 at auction, the Centenary was about $40.

I answered 1-3.
I've got Katnook Cab Sauv 1999 and Lindemans Limestone Ridge 1997. I only bought those 2 because they were marked down to less than 2 times a single bottle.
Anyone think the Katnook will last 20 years?
I think I've got one other decent one but I can't remember what it is.
I also have 4-5 ordinary magnums like Koonunga Hill and Rosemount Shiraz etc which I didn't buy as special bottles, I think they were promotional bottles that either came with a six pack or the stores didn't move them and ended up selling them off as clearance items at only about 15-20% more than the single bottles so I bought 'em. But I didn't include them in my poll answer.
I saw a 99 St Henri magnum for $95 about 12 months ago. I wish I'd bought it.

Only silly ppl. buy Magnum in Australia. Twice the volume, thrice the price
Well it looks like there are many "silly people in Australia." But then there are many "silly people" all over the world; look at the prices paid for some Oz wines in the US we we get them for about a third of the price.
Everything is relative Guest. It only "looks" expensive if you have somthing to compare it to.
