Silesian Wine Company

Post by AstonM »

Hi, long time lurker first time poster.

I have a small boutique wine shop in the next town I love to goto because he tends to carry more Australian wines other than southcorp brands.
one of these is Silesian Wine Company from the Barossa valley.
wine is called "Scribblers" '96 vintage a blend of shiraz/grenache.

the wine blew me away, it was powerfull yet elegant with little noticable oak. something the nay sayers say doesnt exsist in Oz.

I'v tried to search about this company and wine, came up rather empty.
so does anyone on this board have more info? can't say I'v seen the name here either.

Ian
I've got a vague recollection this legislation was coming under review - though maybe that was the inter-state shipping?
Anyway - welcome
Ian

Several states have gone through the courts thanks to the Free the Grapes movement. I THINK Florida has recently deemed it unconstitutional. how long it will take for accual law to be passed is another thing.

This wine is from the Clancy-Fuller Wine Company.

Currently available is the 99 Scriblers Grenache/Shiraz and the 99 Silesian Shiraz/Cabernet.

A couple of young guns from the Barossa (Travis O'Callaghan (yep) and Ben Chapman) have started a wine distribution group called "With Wine". They have some small parcel very intense wine from some old vineyards that had been left to die and are now producing some beautiful wines thanks to people like Tim O'Callaghan (yep) who spends most of his time restoring these old neglected vines. They have some great balltearer wines including the Clancy-Fuller.

I attended a full "With Wine" portfolio tasting yesterday before attending the Coonawarra Barrells and Coonawarra Roadshow. Huge day to have to spit sooo many great wines. I have no intention of providing notes for the over 150 wines I tasted yesterday.

Some of the With...Wines products like:

Laughing Jack Shiraz 02 (Kalleske - 3rd cousins of Troy and right next door)

Soul Growers SGM 02 (James Lindner and made by brother Paul -Langmeil)

Para Creek Grenache/ Shiraz and Shiraz/Cabernet (David Cruickshanks and Paul Lindner)

Diggers Bluff (Tim O'Callaghan (Yep))

Cigale GSM 04 (Pete & Magali Gely) WOW stuff

and McLeans Farm (ex Sthallett), David Franz Wines (made by David Lehmann), Heathvale (Eden Valley), Radford Dale (Ben Radford and Alex Dale) and more.

I don't know if Gavin has any of these. Anyone requiring contact details can send me a PM.

Graham,

Agree entirely on your comments regarding the wines available from With Wine - they are a unique group of Barossan wines from winemakers and wine families that have a long history in the Valley. It is very heartening to see people passionate about and committed to maintaining the wine making heritage of the Barossa by backing these small independent wine producers.

The wines we tasted yesterday were an exceptional group from the point of quality, price and varietal expression. There was not a single poor wine amongst the entire portfolio - with some exceptional wines like the Radford Dale Shiraz (03) and the 05 Riesling, Para Creek Shiraz/Cab (02), Laughing Jack Shiraz (02), Diggers Bluff Cab/Shiraz (99) and the Heathvale Chardonney and Shiraz - just to mention a few.
