Adelaide BYO's of merit?

Post by JamieBahrain »

Just a question for the Adelaide crew- need a good BYO restaurant within a reasonable radius of the CBD.

Sunday night too.

Jamie,

Just some ideas off the top of my head.

Eros, Rundle Street; Greek; good glassware and decanters, knowledgable wine service.

Chianti Classico, Hutt Street; Italian; as above.

Ying Chow, Gouger Street; Cantonese; cheap ($1.50 per head corkage) and cheerful

Unfortunately being a Sunday really limits your options.

I am sure the rest of the SA crew will be able to come of with some more suggestions for you.

Regards

Nayan

Cibos do BYO, but I think the corkage is around $15.

I didn't think Cos was open on Sunday; could be wrong though.

Rooview is the man we need here.

Mark

Was Cos the venue for the offline a few months ago?

Nayan

Thanks. Is your list BYO?

I am holidaying from Hong Kong so may skip the Cantonese.

Jamie

It was 'Cos' we met at.

The Sauce is also good, just outr of the CBD perhaps 2-3 kms, long walk, short cab ride.

Yup.

Thought as much, but wanted to include it as it is a favourite.

In that case the Adelaide is your oyster (Coffin Bay, preferably). Some more for you to chose from; all of which I have BYO'd.

The Blanc, Hutt Street; Seafood

Augé, Grote Street; Italian

The Botanic Café, East Terrace; Modern Australian/Mediterranean Rim

Gaucho, Gouger Street; Obscenely large slabs of meat

Sosta, Rundle Street; Similar to Gaucho, but cheaper and the goat casserole rocks!

Urban Bistro, Fullarton Road; Modern Australian; a little bit out of the way, and a little bit of a clinical atmosphere (IMO), butvery good all the same.

That should keep you going.

Just 'cause you guys live in the boring parts of town. We have eating establishments over our way as well... just make sure you aren't sitting with your back to a door, thats all.

Having a tough time with a few of the above- no BYO!

Rooview

The Greek doesn't facilitate any BYO whatsoever.

Jamie,

Can you let me know any others you find that no longer BYO so I can update my list.

Hard to go past either Cos in the CBD or The Sauce in the near eastern suburbs.

Both are excellent in food, service and understanding you're wino's.

The scenario was a reunion for my wife where I agreed to provide the wines from our over-stocked cellar.

Most of the above were approachable for BYO with corkage around the $15 a bottle- one was happy if I brought a couple of bottles BYO at $15 per bottle and then bought a couple of his reserve wine list.

We ended up at The House. The food was very good and the atmosphere novel for a big get together. There was no charge for BYO wine at all. This a relief as I had` provided about $400 worth of grog and another $100 plus in BYO charges would have stung!

So, The House comes highly recommended for offline type events- BYO decanters and stems too. You are left to your own devices in a private room.

3 courses around $30 per head.

The wrong side for you mate.

It's on Kensington Road somewhere. Non-descript grotty looking place from the outside (I thought it was a bookshop at first).

Food adequate but not great; but didn't know about zero corkage. That would make the food taste so much better.

The House- 29 Kensington Rd Norwood

PH- 8431 1575

BYO- No corkage.

Food- Option of two or three courses for " about " $25 & $30 respectively.

The food was very good and well suited to an offline with the ease of matching wines with the respective offerings.

Ambience- Rustic charm. Rug up in winter even though a portable heater is provided in each individual room.

You are left alone by staff, a bottle opener is available in your dining room so you open your own wine. As previously mentioned, decanters and grand stems can be brought along without fuss.

707- Got your PM hope the above helps. Pure BYO in Adelaide-I thought only a Melbourne culture.

Really close to the big roundabout Mark.

Been there years ago, didn't know it was still operating.
