Didn't check but from memory this is a low alcohol red for Noons only about 14%. This is the last Noon called Grenache Shiraz before the 97 became Eclipse - I think 96 is the first Drew vinatge but I could be wrong. Initially very closed and a bit flat but after about an hour opened up beautifully. Intense fruit with a little bit of development just adding complexity. Any worries about the alcohol being too high for aging dissipated. The legs on the glass reminded me of the 55 Hardys Tintara Cabinet (sic) - one the best Aussies I've had (drunk c 1998).
Nice to hear about the Noons. Do you have any tasting notes on the Hardy's ??
Mark went in search of anything I had on the 55 Hardys - drunk November 98 I was hosting the dinner and didn't manage any notes (too busy cooking etc) but one of the guests wrote "black red colour, rasberry, chocolate and mint, a little short up front but long finish."
I certainly remember it as wine of the night - started with 90 Pol and 90 Vevue (Pol won by a country mile despite them getting same high score in Haliday's Top 100 that year.) Other things of interest that night 66 Grange - rejected by clinic so only was topped as much as they took out - it was very good and left us wonder what a perfect bottle would have been like, 71 Chateau Reynella Vintage Port - good but not as mind blowing as the 77 drunk 5 years earlier
