All,
As we are rapidly approaching the mid point of 2005 ( Where does the time go !) i thought it might be fun to lament over the last 6 months and come up your top 5 wines over the last 6 months
Due to my somewhat restricted budget right now i'm only putting in wines $40 or less
White
Tyrells Vat 1 98 Semillon -- One word Sublime i reckon th 04 might be even better !
Voyager Estate 02 Chardonnay
Devils Lair 02 Chardonnay
Red
Turkey Flat 02 Shiraz.. I know i should be saving these but i can't seem to help myself !!
Mcwilliams Rosehill 2000
Tyrells Vat 9 2003. Not for everyone but i love the stuff
Grant Burge Filsell 02.. One of the best buys of the year imho
Wirra Wirra 02 Shiraz ...mmmm Chocolate......

AUSTRALIAN:
TYRRELL'S VAT 1 Semillon 1995
SCHWARZ WINE COMPANY Barossa Shiraz 2003
These are really enjoyed recently.
The list is endless however.
As I'm in Transylvania right now, I will not write any more options but I hope others will do so.
Cheers,
Attila

Off the top of my head....
00 Martinborough Vineyard Pinot Gris
- A couple of weeks in a backpack, numerous changes of adresses, poorly stored, and it still blew my sox off.
03 Suckfizzle Sauvignon Blanc Semillon
- On pure drinking pleasure alone it rivals the best of any MR Chardonnays I have tried.
00 Taltarni Cephas
- Had to be extra impressive because I dont rate Taltarni a lot, and it was.
96 Bethany GR Shiraz
- A serious Barossa Shiraz drinking at its best.
98 Eileen Hardy Shiraz
- Drank too early, but special nevertheless
Cheers all,
LL

2002 ST Peters...An offence opening this beuty so early but I had to do it to see the hype for myself and it was great but not as great as its going to be.
1998 Lake Breeze Winemakers Selection Shiraz...I just loved this wine wish I had bought more even though I have a couple left. Years left in the tank too. Balance, Fruit and length what more could you want?
Pierro Chard 02... Great for a white and not too Sulphar Oxide compared to most Chards Ive tried. Balance and fruit.

2000 Viking Pinot Noir - Barossa Valley Pinot is so hot right now.
2000 Tyrrells Vat 6 Pinot - Hunter Pinot is nearly as hot too!

Dead set.
Barossa Pinot reminds of Vosne Romanee and Hunter of Pommard. It is the next big thing. The Prophecies of Nostradamus Adair. Buy heavily now before it is too late!

You could be a Kilakanoon telemarketer if your current job fails!

Sorry guest, its to hard to narrow it down. Far to many choices, I have tried heaps of great new releases and then many very fine older bottles too. It would take to much brain power to think about it and I am trying to concentrate on getting the next Tour Diary Chapter out and its just keeps getting longer and longer. I am at 9,000 words and still at the first winery of the second day in Coonawarra, so there is a fair bit to go.

Seppelt Jaluka Chardonnay 2004
Cullen Cabernet Merlot 1999
Cullen Chardonnay 2001
Seppelt St Peters Shiraz 1999
Tahbilk Shiraz Malbec 1990
Wynns Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon 2001
Bullers Calliope Shiraz 2002
Petaluma Coonawarra 1998
Tahbilk Reserve Cabernet 1991
in no particular order and some others that don't spring to mind just now so maybe they weren't as good as the above. Of the above, I couldn't seperate Tahbilk Shiraz Malbec 1990, Petaluma Coonawarra 1998, Seppelt St Peters 1998 and Cullen Cabernet Merlot 1999. All excellent+ wines in their individual styles. The Tahbilk S/M was the biggest surprise - it was the equal of all, with the bonus of aged characters as well as being the cheapest of all except the Jaluka, a bargain < $30. On reflection, I guess it would have to be my best wine so far this year due to it's exceptional QPR.

Reds - 2003 Kalleske Johann Georg Shiraz, 2002 Seppelt St.Peters Shiraz, 2002 Jasper Hill Georgia's Paddock Shiraz.
All the reds are very special, pity they're almost unobtainable.
Just another bigot, huh Steve? Bet you drink champagne, even if it's only the pink stuff, just like the rest of the conditional bigots!
Haven't tried the 02 St Peters or Georgia's, but the 99s of each are special too, the Georgia's particularly so.
cheers

from NZ
one head and shoulders above any other:
1996 Martinborough Vineyards Reserve Pinot Noir - one of those wines that makes you realise why you do it. Cellared perfectly at 12oC since release, absolutely sensational

Have to agree craig it is a smart wine I scored it on par with a 99 clos de la roche domaine dujac and streets apart in price. some other good wines drank this year in no particular order of preference are a 99 kay bros block 6, 95 de bortoli melba reserve,86 tahbilk shiraz, 98 parker first growth, 96 alkoomi blackbutt, a 96 pennies magill, a 76 grange and 707,a 94 brokenwood and a 93 moss wood cab sauv.
cheers peter.
Probably forgetting a few goodies, but pretty ordinary, lean year so far, taking it easy on the wallet, doh
Reds: Wynns Black Label 1976 (mmm..ready, but will hold, ripper) , John Riddoch 1994 (it is love!). Chateau Margaux, 1981 (ordinary vintage, stunning wine), Chateau Leoville-Poyferre 1983 (sexy and glorious), 1975 Grange (just lacking a little complexity). 1994 Meshach (one bottle fading, another starting to peak?). Greenock Creek and Sally's Paddock, a few others but nothing else truly spectacular. Still a while to go of 2005 though
Whites: ?? A few Sauternes amd some Australian botritys, nothing memorable in the dry whites, but that's my fault for not really appreciating and seeking them out, I think.

1996 Fourrier G-C "Cloc St Jacques"
1985 Rousseau Chambertin "Clos de Beze"
2002 Cacheaux Echezeaux
1993 Anne Gros Richebourg
1995 Calon Segur
1995 La Conseillante (many Bordeaux insiders now consider this the "wine of the vintage". Parker gave it around 89 points, so it can still be picked up cheaply, and it is the best Pomerol I have yet seen, Petrus included)
1994 Faurie Hermitage (yes, 1994, that is not a misprint)
2002 Cullen's chardonnay
2002 Michelot Mersault Clos St Felix
