Hi all...Would anyone be able to tell me how much this wine cost when it was first released onto the market and what sort of scores it got by testers? Is it in the same league as Grange 1990 etc?

Hello platinum,

The Bin 90A was released at the same price as the 1990 Grange, and I believe this was the case even at the wholesale level.

With regard to the price of the Bin 90A and the 1990 Grange at the retail level, depending on the retailer and how soon you bought the wine, it was typically between $90 and $120 per bottle, with the 1990 Grange being sold at up to $150 per bottle in some places.

With regard to whether it is in the same league as the 1990 Grange, the answer is most definitely "yes".

Tried it Wednesday night at a restaurant in London. I had actually sold them the stock. It was fabulous my winemaker friends all thought it was a 1998/1999 in terms of youth. Only the redoutable Rolf Binder came close by saying it reminded hom of a Penfolds special bin!!
Deep in colour with vibrant red fruits and spice. Oak now integrated, as are tannins fabulous now and over the next 10 or more years. Certainly stands comparison yo Grange 1990....

I paid $110 at release. Having had this 4 times, I believe that not only is it superior to the 1990 Grange, but it one of the handful of best Aussie wines I have had. I rate it alongside the 71 and 86 Grange and 90 HOG.

The remaining bottles will be given many years of slumber.

Hi Platinum...

I can only give prices on release here in the U.K in 1995.
Bought from Oddbins I paid Ãƒâ€šÃ‚Â£49.99 for the 1990 Grange and Ãƒâ€šÃ‚Â£59.99 for the Bin 90A.I've shown restraint with these wines and shall let them sleep for another 5 years.By all accounts fantastic wines.

Hi all,

Bought 3 on release for about $120. Drank one a few years ago and it ranks up there with the best I've ever had and possibly the best. Still a pup and will go another 10 - 20 years. Oddbins Adelaide have a price range of $200 - $240. 2 of these for 1 1990 Grange is a steal.

Anyone wanting to do this trade can leave a message on this site. The 1990 Grange has been well cellared since release.

Bought both for around the $100 mark at release. Haven't had either for a long time but thought the 90A was at least the equal of the Grange.

Thanks for everyones info. I am able to purchase some of these at $270 per bottle which is way above release but 1) I know they have been cellared correctly 2) Way cheaper than a good Grange vintage and from all reports better 3) Way cheaper than 2004 Special Bins and proven to be the goods 4) Unlike 2004 Bins its Shiraz/Cab blend which is a favourite of mine
