Best of 1991 shiraz

Post by monghead »

Hi all,

Plannings are in the pipeline of abit of a cook-up.

I was given the enviable task of organising wines for the night, and the theme.

I looked in my cellar, and an epiphany.........best of 1991 SA shiraz.

It was an excuse to crack open a bottle of Grange, HOG, Meshach, Rockford BP.

Are there any other suggestions as to worthy counterparts to the above? Unfortunately, I would have to source these, but am always keen to try.

Perhaps Wendouree, Aberfeldy, Stonewell?

Keen to hear all suggestions.

Cheers,

Monghead.

Monghead,

Perhaps you could try the St Halletts Old Block, its drinking really well. The Mt Ed would not be out of place either.

I found the Stonewell and to a lesser extent, Wynns Michael, a bit oaky.

On the other hand the 91 Rockford is by far my favourite vintage for this producer. If you have got a good bottle, you won't be disappointed.

Lastly, if you have a bit of latitude, the Wynns Centenary (cab / shiraz blend) is a ripper and should be considered.

Cheers

The Coriole "Llyod's" is an absolute ripper, as is the St Hallett's Old Block. Both of these would put a few on your list to shame. IMO, 1991 SA is turning out much better than 1990.

Leasingham Classic Clare Shiraz is drinking amazingly well at the moment, and there is also Meshach.

Mount Edelstone is a cracker too. 3 Rivers is s'posed to be superb if you've got the $$$ and can find it.

I've been fortunate to try a heap of great 1991s in the last year or so, at options last night a couple came up.

A list where I might forget a few but definitely

Armagh
Mt.Edelstone
Old Block
Rockford BP
Lloyd Reserve
Stonewell
E&E Black Pepper

Agree with a bit of latitude Wynns Centenary

Enjoy
Cheers - Steve
