Best St Peters 99-01

Post by action2096 »

Guys,

Just been offered some St Peters for a pretty good price. I've got a choice of the 99 through to the 01 and was wondering if anyone had an opinion on what the best vintage would be ?

I've tried the 01 recently but i think the bottle was suffering from a touch of TCA as it seemed very subdued..

Was looking to get 1/2 a case of so to put away.

I guess i could always get 2 of each :)

Cheers

Chris

Agree Davo, the 1999 was impressive wine that has the structure to age really well. I just put my six pack away in a corner to sit quietly for a few years.

The more 1999s I try from the main SA regions including Coonawarra and from Pyrenees, Grampians etc in Victoria, The more I think this is a very good vintage that was undersold in hype because it followed the 1998. I looking forward to doing side by side comparisons of the same wine from the two vintages in a couple of years to see which has turned out better in the longer haul.
Cheers - Steve

I have the 98, 99, 01 & 02 but skipped the 00 due to the number of comments regarding bottle variation (I wasn't willing to spend $40+ on a wine that had so much conjecture re Brett).
But I had the 00 at a Seppelt tasting a month ago and the one I tried was superb and so good that I keep thinking I might get a couple.

I was recently offered 6 bottles of the 00 for $35 each, and I said "yes". I have not been disappointed. So far I've drunk 3 and they have all been superb. If the 99, 01 and 02 are much better, then I look forward to them with some anticipation, as I have a few, somewhere..
