G'day
Purchased from the winery in 2016, and the front label declares "handpicked from 121 year old vines'. Decanted 3 hours before service. Deep purple in colour, with a ruby rim.
Pronounced nose with Christmas cake, cloves, rich black plums, vanilla, blackberry, and the whiff of leather blew off quickly. The palate reflects the nose, with the plummy fruit dominating, the spices in support, and a lovely velvety (almost inky) texture. Tannins are velvety and pretty well integrated, and acid issoft. Long finish and getting better in the glass.
This may plateau for a while, but I suspect it's at its best. Quintessential old style McLaren Vale Shiraz.
Cheers
Allan

I only had this once and recall saying unbalanced fruit bomb. Glad your bottle was better than mine…

We had a bottle of the 2000 last week with my parents. Popped and poured, it was fabulous. I couldn't quite believe how well balanced it was straight out of the bottle. And it looked like it had the goods to hold for a few more years yet. One of my red wines of the year.

Always been a fan of B6 and I’ve remnants from regular buys in the late 90’s early 2000’s.
A true fireplace red. I learnt to heed the back of the bottle advice of always decanting for an hour ( even in older bottles ).
I always think of RPjr and his stopwatch timing a finish when drinking old B6. Is it really a measure of great wine to be tasting a wine a minute afterward? Funny times back then.
