TN: Xanadu 'Stevens Road' Chardonnay 2014

Post by Waiters Friend »

G'day

Purchased at the winery in 2017. Yellow / gold in colour.

Initially, the nose displays lots of polished oak - vanilla and cedar. This settles down to show plenty of peach and nectarine, with a little lemon and citrus very much in the background. The palate is similarly full and rich, with the stone fruits dominating the palate, and well matched by the oak, both in terms of flavour and mouthfeel. There's just the right amount of acid to keep the wine lively, without being tart or sharp. A reasonably long finish.

This is definitely at the bigger end of the chardonnay spectrum - lots of fruit and flavour, not overpowered by substantial oak,and all in balance. Excellent wine, and in great condition - there's still potentially room for further development, but at its peak now.

Cheers

Thanks Alan

I have always found the acid in this producer's wines to be OTT but perhaps that is just a result of tasting them young.

Cheers
