G'day
This wine and quite a few others from this winery followed me back from the town of Montepulciano in 2019. Ercolani also produce olives, olive oil, salami, cheeses and truffles, and (for a winery that claims to manage 14 Ha of vines only) offer sales and shipping to an astonishing variety of countries around the world. The wines also include Chianti (Colli Senesi) and Brunello. How do they do it?
At 10 years of age, this wine is still purple/black in colour. A quite powerful nose of dark sour cherrries, cloves, some leather, mocha and dried herbs. There's a slight raisin element as well. The palate is quite full, with juicy acidity, developed dark and red fruits (including those cherries), and integrated but drying tannins. Lingering finish. Damn, the glass has drained itelf while compiling this note.
I was actually expecting this to be a little over the hill, but this bottle is looking very good indeed. A pleasant surprise indeed. Somebody please pour me a second glass.
Cheers
Allan
