2024 Rieslings
2024 Rieslings
Hi.
I've heard some rumblings that 2024 Rieslings are pretty good particularly from Clare Valley. Any thoughts?

Re: 2024 Rieslings
I have heard the same but not tasted enough to confirm if that is the case. Even if correct I bought a lot of Rieslings from the stellar 2022 vintage, so will only buy the odd one here and there.

Re: 2024 Rieslings
Summary of 2024 vintage based on the Clare Valley Wine & Grape Association report -
The 2024 growing season began with a dry winter and early spring. Regional crush down 20% on average, because of frost in October. A wet period leading to Christmas, then a dry summer and autumn. No disease pressure for growers.
Riesling yields are down for those affected by the frost event. But “displays classic restraint and varietal precision”.
I am interpreting that to mean less wine, but very good quality.
I think that was mirrored by judge comments at the 2024 Clare Valley Wine Show - ie. Very good 2024 Rieslings across the board.

I've tried the '24 Rieslingfreak #2 & #3 and '24 Limefinger. All 3 are stunning.JamieAdelaide wrote: ↑Sat Jan 11, 2025 5:18 pm Had a rush of blood and bought 12 x Grosset Polish Hill 2024.

If you had to choose between drinking great wine or winning Lotto, which would you choose - Red or White?

Re: 2024 Rieslings
It’s interesting to read this thread for me, as I first started getting into wine from sweet reislings from selbach oster. And now I can appreciate the drier and more acidic versions that are easy drinking.
Re: 2024 Rieslings
2024 was an excellent vintage and should be highly regarded. I've tasted a number on Craig's list and concur.
You can safely add Naked Run to the list, Steve is the Riesling master (he's the winemaker at Pikes), Penna Lane Watervale, Mort's Block from Kilikanoon, and Taylors St Andrews.
I have not tasted any of the 2024's from O'leary Walker wines, or Skillogalee as yet (KT is the winemaker at Skillogalee also). Actually none of the Grossets yet either. The Alea is more my to go from his portfolio now, the perfect lunch wine.
I think I've posted before, Kenny Wine, 2024 Polish Hill River is a favourite of mine.
Have also tried a couple 2024s from Eden Valley - Pewsey Vale & Henschke's Peggy's Hill, all decent too.
If the weather remains the way it is - not too hot during the day and some cooler over night temperatures, 2025 is shaping up nicely too.
Re: 2024 Rieslings
Many thanks for the feedback. After family and friends drained a good percentage of my rieslings over the holiday season it's time to stock up. I have moved on from aged riesling and like them fresh and zingy so 2024 looks the goods.

Re: 2024 Rieslings
Pretty happy - just picked up a mixed doz. - 6 & 6 - of the '24 Drumborg and '24 Leo Buring EV for $15 each.
Probably one of my best buys in recent times. Love both these wines.
Stock up on the '24's you enjoy, because of the hottest year / driest year in history, '25's might show some stress.

Our Barossa Shiraz and Cabernet dry grown friends are probably suffering. Likely 40-50% down on volume, if not more.WineRick wrote: ↑Tue Jan 14, 2025 5:17 pm Pretty happy - just picked up a mixed doz. - 6 & 6 - of the '24 Drumborg and '24 Leo Buring EV for $15 each.

Clare Valley Riesling looking very good from all the vineyards I can see, hasn't been real hot yet. Some December rain was welcomed. Cool nights.
Cabernet volumes are definitely down. Dont have enough intel on Shiraz to call a position yet.
Stock up on 2021 and 2022 reds in the interim though!
