Vale Mychurch - Our great friend, Cameron

Post by cuttlefish »

It is with a very heavy heart that I bring sad news of the passing of our great friend and wine tasting buddy, Cameron (aka MyChurch).
Cameron was involved in an horrific car accident over the weekend where there were multiple fatalities.
For those of us here who were fortunate enough to meet and spend time with Cameron, he was an enchanting gentleman; always generous and thoughtful with his conversation, and a real encyclopedia of wine knowledge.
A number of us on this forum met regularly in and around Melbourne as members of a wine appreciation group. I think I can speak for all of us when I say we are terribly upset by Cam's unexpected passing. He will be so, so missed.
Rest in peace, Cameron. You were an absolute gem of a human. x

Oh no. mychurch was a valued contributor to this forum and an instantly recognisable name.

I never met Cameron, but we attempted to meet when he came to WA a couple of years ago. The stars didn't align, unfortunately.

Heartfelt condolences to all who knew him.

I just wanted to add my shock and sadness at hearing this news. I'm feeling pretty much devastated here on the other side of the world, Cameron and the Melbourne group offering me such a warm welcome earlier this year when I visited.

My thoughts are with Cameron's wife, his family and all who knew him.

Con was kind enough to give me a lovely old wine when he, Cameron and I had dinner on night. I'll open that in his honour.

R.I.P. a lovely man.

The very last time I saw Cameron, his selfie taken as we parted ways after a fantastic offline dinner. Terrible photo, fantastic memories.

Very sad news and my condolences to his family and friends. His differing preferences in wine were and forum entries were always a highlight, regardless if our palates aligned. We have enjoyed a few wine dinners together in the past (although it has been many years) and it greatly saddens me to know we have lost a member here in such circumstances. May you rest in peace Cameron

Vale Mychurch. I never met him, but his posts suggest that he approached wine and people with an open heart.

Very sad for him and his loved ones.

Will open something special this weekend.

Cheers

Nice words mate. As a member of the the tasting group Cameron was a member of, I concur he was a lovely, genuine, generous person. He had a phenomenal knowledge of old world wines. He will be very missed. Our wine tasting group will never be the same without him. Rest in peace my dear friend.

Yes, terrible news. Although having been at various Melbourne tasting groups over the last twenty years, I am not sure that I met Cameron, and clearly that would not have happened in the last four years since moving back to Adelaide, but I appreciated the posts and could imagine the camaraderie. No doubt will be sorely missed by family and friends, and the Auswine community.

Prayers for Cameron's wife Trudi, who was driving and survived the crash, but is in hospital with life-threatening injuries.

I believe it happened near Brisbane airport. Cameron and Trudi had been heading there. The driver of the other car which collided with them, on the wrong side of the road, has been arrested.

A great loss to his loved ones and friends. I will miss his encyclopaedic knowledge of wine. Yet another accident with multiple deaths and the negligent driver walk away.

I’m saddened to hear of the loss of Cameron. We occasionally bid against each other on obscure bottles at auction and he extended an invite to a few Melb events which always looked amazing.

Condolences to his wine buddies here.

So sad and a great loss to the wine world. I was fortunate to attend a couple of tastings at Cameron’s invitation, where his knowledge and love of wine was clearly evident. A warm and engaging personality who will be greatly missed by all around him. Vale Cameron.

So sad to hear this news, feel like I knew him just via his positive and enthusiastic posts, often on obscure wines I also loved! But never had the pleasure to meet him. Really hoping Trudi gets over her injuries and that she has some support around her as it’s going to be so tough. RIP Cameron.
