September purchases
September purchases
6 x 2021 Yalumba Signature
Heard it was good, tasted at the vineyard recently. A fantastic red - stylish, long-flavoured and beautifully balanced.

6 x Glen Eldon Wines 2021 Barossa ValleyTwisted Trunk Shiraz.
6 x Corryton Burge 2019 The Brigadier Eden Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. Nice to see Grant Burge didn't sell the Corryton Park vineyard to Accolade. The cooler Eden Valley is ideal for growing cabernet that is more generous in sweeter black fruit (particularly blackberry) and less harsh greener flavours.

Re: September purchases
Trying out a new Italian based retail outfit Svinando. Early reviews showed some significant teething troubles, but despite never getting any tracking info, the parcel arrived today, with solid packing and everything looks fine.
"Il Falcone" Castel del Monte Riserva DOC 2017
3x "Violante" Nero di Troia Castel del Monte DOC 2020 I tried a bottle of this from a different retailer, having long enjoyed the above wine - very much the benchmark for the region/lead grape. A touch more forward, but with lovely brightness, so getting some more was on the cards.
2x "La Berardina" Freisa Monferrato DOC 2022 I do like Freisa, and Accornero (the producer) is solid
"Corleto" Lambrusco Grasparossa di Castelvetro Secco DOC Not so easy to find proper Lambrusco, despite it being such a useful food wine.
Timorasso "Piccolo Derthona" DOC 2021
2x Derthona Timorasso Ca' degli Olmi DOC 2021 Both from a producer (Canevaro Luca, presumably following that Piemontese tradition of reversing forename and surname between generations) that is new to me, but seems well-received on CT, plus it's become a favourite white grape for me over the last decade. I'll always try new ones.
958 Brachetto d'Acqui DOCG The producer is Santero, the wine like a red equivalent of Moscato d'Asti, and my aperitivo of choice after a day's rushing around on holiday.
"'Na Vota" Ruchè di Castagnole Monferrato DOCG 2022. Another slightly obscure Piemontese red grape, and one that can get a bit high in alc %. I have another bottle of this buried in the cellar from an earlier vintage, which I probably need to open up soon.

Along with a few others from the Melbourne tasting group,
6* 2021 Denton Yellow
Denton are closing and this was on offer at $50 per 6. Loved the 15. No idea if this is good, but at that price I am willing to take a punt.

Some of the potentially cut over from last month but still… they’ve arrived this month.
6 X 2022 MM Quintet, and 3 X Pinot and Chardonnay
6 X 2023 Credaro Kinship Chardonnay
3 X 2023 J&S Fielke Lenswood Chardonnay
After spying the reference to Kenny Wines Riesling, suspect I’ll be adding 3 of those before the end of the week, along with some 2024 Rieslingfreak #2.
Cheers, Ed

Re: September purchases
At some point I fear the corporate ownership will f*ck up the brand, just as they've done for so many other historic brands. For now though I agree, they've survived remarkably well, and prices for this superb label have even avoided the aspirational greed that has killed off so much interest in Penfolds.

Ian, for the most part Wynns due to being the only mainstay from Coonawarra, still has a beating heart. Not sure how the newly listed RRP of $175 sits with the 2021 John Riddoch... hope there's a fire sale coming. But yes, I have purchased gallons of BL in the last 10-20 years.Ian S wrote: ↑Thu Sep 26, 2024 10:44 pmAt some point I fear the corporate ownership will f*ck up the brand, just as they've done for so many other historic brands. 2 x 6-packs of Yelland and Papps 2022 Greenock Shiraz. An interesting style that reminds me of Dean Hewitson's wines. More restraint and with finesse. All class.

Would have liked to get more Eisenstone, but hard to justify more than a couple of bottles after MM this month.

Re: September purchases
I took a punt on 2021 Eisenstone and purchased approximately 2 dozen across the estate and single vineyard wines.
I am not sure I am going to purchase any of the 2022s, and fingers crossed 2021 may take the points in the long term.
I am sure they are excellent wines..but yes need to continually stop buying and reign it all in
Cheers Craig

I saw the 2022 get a good wrap in their marketing… such a sucker! Will probably try the estate early doors to get a sense if I put some $ into them longer term.phillisc wrote: ↑Mon Sep 30, 2024 10:13 am I took a punt on 2021 Eisenstone and purchased approximately 2 dozen across the estate and single vineyard wines.

Re: September purchases
Yes I suspect Ed, like a lot of labels coming out from the Barossa, that there will be plenty of fine wines made. The 2022 Eisenstone's should be right up there, I just think by the time you look at the 11 or so wines and get a bottle or 2 of each then sheesh .

Currently in Tasmania for the first time ever. Purchases are mostly riesling, chardonnay, pinot noir and a couple of syrah with a few oddities like trousseau thrown in.
Wineries purchased from in the last week are Future Perfect, Glaetzer Dixon, Pooley, Small Wonder, and Stoney Rise. And no, this is not specifically a wine trip
Cheers

There was an email, but not sure what the criteria was.It was a pre-release due to the small amount of Lowke - I think I bought 6 last year, so maybe that was the reason - limited to 3 this year. The official release is 2nd week in October.

Had a 2006 Alion and was disappointed. I will decant the next bottle. Always tough knowing how to approach a vintage wine. Lucky I have 6.
On the other hand, pop and pour Mascarello Monprivato 2003 was spellbinding as this vineyard often is!
