TN: Walsh & Sons Burnside Chardonnay 2023

Post by Waiters Friend »

G'day

This was a discovery at a fine Perth restaurant (on their 'by the glass' list) 2 weeks ago. I bought a six pack subsequently.

The Burnside vineyard is a picturesque location on the bank of the Margaret River. McHenry Hohnen also makes a Burnside chardonnay and I believe there is a family connection between McHenry Hohnen and Walsh and Sons.

Moderate yellow in colour. The nose has prominent yellow peach and nectarine, with toasted grains and a touch of salinity. The palate is quite delightful - a wonderful balance between stone fruits and cedary oak, with acid in a supporting role. There's plenty of flavour and a little textural grip, without being overpowering or too big. Reasonable length in proportion to the flavour profile.

Half a dozen bottles of this may not be enough. And it's down to five now, anyway :)

Cheers
Allan
