Really interested in the Symphony Hill - never really tried much wine from Queensland.

Re: February 2024 Purchases
Will be interested in what you make of the Margan / where the style is these days. The 2000 vintage I tasted was rather forward / soft for a Hunter Semillon (and the other bottle corked - back from the days when cork was the death of these wines).

Re: February 2024 Purchases
A light month. Only two bottles of Moss Wood Estate Cabernet Sauvignon. The store was having inventory sale and offered 35% off for three consecutive vintages of '17, '18 & '19. I picked up the newest vintage. Did I choose right?
Re: February 2024 Purchases
vintage variation is minimal in margaret river, but I'd say the 2018 is the best of those three, with many proclaiming it the best-ever vintage in MR.
Re: February 2024 Purchases
I recall 2-3 years where it was grim in some of the South Aussie regions, yet Marg River sailed through the vintage with no concerns. I've not followed vintage reports for a good few years now, but I wonder when the last *really* difficult vintage was in MR - whilst 2021 looks like it had issues, I wonder if 1983 was the last really difficult vintage?

Re: February 2024 Purchases
2006 especially for cabernet ... cool season which made it hard to get the fruit to ripen ... plenty of green/stalky characteristics in cabernets from this vintage.Ian S wrote: ↑Tue Feb 20, 2024 10:10 pmI recall 2-3 years where it was grim in some of the South Aussie regions, yet Marg River sailed through the vintage with no concerns. With my euro-leaning palate, green and stalky can be very appealingAndrew Jordan wrote: ↑Wed Feb 21, 2024 10:30 am2006 especially for cabernet ... cool season which made it hard to get the fruit to ripen ... plenty of green/stalky characteristics in cabernets from this vintage.Ian S wrote: ↑Tue Feb 20, 2024 10:10 pmI recall 2-3 years where it was grim in some of the South Aussie regions, yet Marg River sailed through the vintage with no concerns. ... but yes a very valid candidate for a 'difficult' vintage

Re: February 2024 Purchases
I think 2006 might have been the last bad one. Wet and cold. Was tough for reds.Ian S wrote: ↑Tue Feb 20, 2024 10:10 pmI recall 2-3 years where it was grim in some of the South Aussie regions, yet Marg River sailed through the vintage with no concerns. Edit: sorry, already mentioned above.
Re: February 2024 Purchases
I bought a few bottles of Elizabeth Semillon at MW, 1 of the 84 and 2 of the 86. I drank the 83 with Con a few weeks ago and it was hanging on, so hopefully these will be fine - cork of course, so who knows.
A couple of curios from Langtons: a NV Morris Sauternes, and a Mic Morris Sparkling Durif/Shiraz. Not sure how old that one is - the label is very different to the current releases, but I can’t find much info on it.

Re: February 2024 Purchases
Nice one - thanks for that Sean. Yes sounds like still with a slightly earlier maturing profile than say Tyrrells, but probably thriving under screwcap.
