G’day
This wine was purchased from the winery in late 2016, so probably not long after release. Decanted 2 hours before service. Only now, after reading the back label, did I realise there’s 5% Viognier in here as well, co-fermented with the Shiraz. 11 months in French oak.
Crimson in colour. A nose of cloves, dark plums and blackberries, faint dried apricot, a little leather, and some dried herbs. The fruit aromas are well-developed, and the wine is showing lots of secondary characters.
The palate is silky, with the apricot slightly more apparent over the dark fruits. The fine tannins are fully integrated and barely noticeable. There’s a bit more of the leather on the tongue as well, and the wine, while flavourful, is only medium bodied, and has a moderate length.
Possibly at its best a couple of years ago. Certainly the back label says “up to 8 years”. This one slipped through.
Cheers
Allan
