G'day
I think I last looked at this wine in 2020, as part of a vertical tasting. Not surprisingly, it probably needed a little more time - now it is 10 years old and worth another look. Decanted about 4 hours before service and returned to the cellar.
Deep purple, almost black, and only slightly translucent. Complex and interesting nose, with fairly intense blackcurrant alongside dried herbs, dark chocolate, cigars, and mint/menthol. The palate has a little alcohol heat (14%, by the way) and this masks a little of the fruit, which is heading into the red spectrum on the mid palate. There's a touch of capsicum as well. Tannins are pretty much integrated. The wine appears medium bodied, but this belies quite a long finish.
I'll open another one in a year or two.
Cheers
Allan
