Re: POLL: How do you buy most of your wine?
I went for auction as I make the most of my purchases that way (2 a month say), but it’s often only a few bottles. I’m on the list now of a handful of producers and probably I buy more actual bottles per year through these orders than I do at auction.

MC, I have just finished for the year and since 7 am today there are 17 emails from various wine outlets, wineries/CDs wishing me a Merry Christmas.
I wasn't going to buy anything more this year, after the very expensive BV trip last weekend, but Vickery W/V and Pikes Rieslings for less than W/sale... what's not to love.
Cheers Craig

Craig
you have to be brave and just delete the emails without reading them.
I just signed up to the Vickery Mailing list. Lets hope they dont send out an offer I cant say no to.

Three choices for me, etailers ('Fo, Winestar, d'Or to Door in the main), Winery memberships, then auction. Are Cellardoorco and CellarOne classified as etailers? If so, add them in

So far this year retailer online > retailer store and I'd say that would hold true most years
Going back in time, trips to Italy would almost always include cellar door purchases
Going back even further, I found auctions were a wonderful way to bring some aged wines into a youthful cellar
I've never been in a wine club or on a winery mailing list.

Went to Costco yesterday Craig and saw both Pikes and Vickery Rieslings. Bought a Vickery to try and it’s very different to the Richmond Grove wines I have buying from the defining of the Millenium. Quite spicy, almost as if there is some traminer in their. Not really my thing, but hopefully there will be some mailing list offers of older stock. I think I paid $23 for a bottle (or maybe $21).

I buy most of my wine (these days, 90% Burgundy, Champagne and Loire) by direct importer, so its actually none of the above.

Thanks MC, think I paid $17 and $13 respectively, so worth a punt.mychurch wrote: ↑Sun Dec 24, 2023 10:50 pmWent to Costco yesterday Craig and saw both Pikes and Vickery Rieslings. Re: POLL: How do you buy most of your wine?
I've only purchased a little wine from bricks and mortar stores the last couple of years. Some from The Wine Experience in Brisbane and only 3 bottles from Dirty Dans.
Online I mainly use Boccacio Cellers and Different Drop. Quite a few others, but those are the main two. Bought a little bit from Cellardoor.co as well. I am having a rest for a while as I've gone long on '21 from SA and Vic. Plus I tend not to buy much over summer anyway due to the delivery in the heat.
But most of my purchases are direct from the winery. That is due to a lot of the wines I buy being unavailable in mainstream retail land.
Cheers

If you had to choose between drinking great wine or winning Lotto, which would you choose - Red or White?
Re: POLL: How do you buy most of your wine?
My records classify winery mailing list as cellar door so went cellar door (30%). Then house account (the various family and friends programs like cellardoor etc) (20%) Then a bunch of retailers - if different branches of Dirty Dans are combined may be about 25%

Re: POLL: How do you buy most of your wine?
For me it depends on the month, and who sent me the most tempting emails. For example, Paringa have a cellar release sale on the first Saturday in December...so that month might be cellar door. Similar when Tahbilk have their yearly sale (although they may move that to online). Other months it might be that I get an email or two that break the bank (Killikanoon are good at that!). An I did hit the auctions a few times as well.
The only one I don't use is 'wine club'.
