Depending on price, probably a 6-pack of Bin22A.

Easy for me, don't really enjoy many Penfolds wines, well, the red wines anyway. Just so so not my style, so not my oak treatment etc.
Really like many of the whites, but such poor VFM that again, not for me!

$50 for a tasting at my local Dan’s that will include Grange. I bet it sells out.
Not had many bad Penfolds wines, but also not so many great QPR wines. Spent $380 last month on a 1990 Bin 707, and unless some older bottles of rielsling come up at Auction, that’s going to be my only purchase this year. I did have a glass of their Rose Champagne on Sunday at the Crown in Melbourne and it was dire - hard to telll if that was inherit quality or a wine that had been opened too long. The ‘12 Dom Perignon blue it away (in quality and in price)

Not much value in any of the wines at release price. I will be honest, I am tempted by the Napa Cabernet and the new Grenache. But unless they come up at much cheaper prices, I'll still pass.
For what it's worth, I agree with Gavin. The whites are excellent. Bought a few 6 packs of the Bin 311 @ $28 a bottle over the last few years and it's a cracking wine at that price.
Cheers

If you had to choose between drinking great wine or winning Lotto, which would you choose - Red or White?

Penfolds wines are such poor value for money, and most of their wines completely lack terrior. I hate their formula winemaking.
I haven't bought any Penfolds wines in probably 15 years.

Same answer as the last 20 years...!
Re: POLL: The Penfolds Collection 2023 - Are you buying any this year?
ditto (2004 vintage is my youngest)
Re: POLL: The Penfolds Collection 2023 - Are you buying any this year?
If I had the cashola, there is potentially 3, perhaps 5 of the Australian 2021 vintage and maybe something from the 2019 vintage...but alas I don't...so its a no from me

Re: POLL: The Penfolds Collection 2023 - Are you buying any this year?
I dream of the day I have bucketloads of money to spend on wine and still don't buy Penfolds' latest releases. I just don't get the wines any more. With so many more ultra premium wines in the range the "lower" level wines like 28, 128, 389,407 etc are likely to be starved of quality grapes of yesteryear. The last 389 I had was unremarkable. RRP was over $100. It lacked character.

I may potentially look at some St Henri if the price is right as have been getting a 6er for each of the last 4 years.
Last year I got a deal on a couple of bottles of the 704 which I had tried at a tasting and thought was reasonable.
Cheers Ed

Hell NO. Not because of the wine.

Of those not buying, were you buying
For me the answers would be no 10 years ago, but yes 20 years ago

Re: POLL: The Penfolds Collection 2023 - Are you buying any this year?
I used to buy Ian. You’ll remember all the offers from Tesco’s in the late 90’s/early noughties and that probably contributed to me stopping purchasing. I did purchase as well from suppliers in the Netherlands, but these wines were always on special offer as well - even Albert Heijn had a regular deal on Grange. I think that baked in the ‘only buy on special’ mentality and when the deals stopped the purchases never returned. Whenever I try a Penfolds wine I am usually impressed, but if I really wanted a bottle, you can pick them at at auction later for a more reasonable price. Or on special - $50 for an 07a last year for example.

+1.
Penfolds was about 12% of my cellar back in the mid 00’s, now it’s just over 1%.
Still enjoy an old bottle now and then.

Not sure that solely price is the thrust of this thread/forum...but all cheaper at Langtons...buy direct through their shop portal.
I've just picked up some Adelina today...happy with that

Penfolds are no longer on my radar, and haven't been for 8 years. I would rather one Sami-Odi vintage or many other wineries for around $80.

Re: POLL: The Penfolds Collection 2023 - Are you buying any this year?
Likewise for me it's partly the wine style, partly the price... and indeed often difficult to separate the two for many wines. At what price might I be a buyer? Certainly noticeably less than half the DM/VC prices Sean listed above, albeit with the majority of labels not really of interest irrespective of price. I presume others will be closer to me in finding value in the range.

I’ve only had a taste of it a few times Sean, and it’s sensational imo. I’m tempted to make it to a tasting to compare it against the 2018, which I thought was absolutely worthy of the high praise it was receiving (noting I haven’t drunk a huge amount of high end wine….yet!).
I’m also keen to try St Henri to see if a few bottles for a future verticals is worthwhile.

Bought 6 Bin 28 and 2 St Henri (only Pennies I've been buying for the last few years) - was tempted by 389 after drinking a 98 and an 02 last week - but outside my usual price bracket

Yattarna is the only one I am interested in. If I find a few in my travels I will grab it. Won't be going out of my way.

Re: POLL: The Penfolds Collection 2023 - Are you buying any this year?
I got a bottle of 2019 Bin 128 as an incentive to buy a six pack of a non-Penfolds red. Good value for $75 for 7 bottles.
Wine, women and song. Ideally, you can experience all three at once.
Re: POLL: The Penfolds Collection 2023 - Are you buying any this year?
I have a qty collection of Penfolds incl Grange 707, 407, St Henri that I am never going to get to drink. All purchased new and always stored in alarmed wine fridge for years and years. What is the best way to sell these? Can anybody give me the best heads up? I did sell a vertical dozen Grange through Lloyds Auctions fine wine sales a couple of years ago and was not unhappy with the prices attained... just reckon they were worth a bit more and the comn was hefty (although of course I acknowledge that was what they are entitled to). Any suggestions?
Re: POLL: The Penfolds Collection 2023 - Are you buying any this year?
MW don’t charge commission on Grange, so it’s probably the best place to start. Price wise I assume Langtons will get the highest price as it has the highest number of bidders, but a few people on this site have had issues with them, so be wary.

unlikely to buy....
I have found that wines like 389 under screw cap are taking too long to come around.
good vintage used to be in their prime after 15-18 years but screw cap seems more like 20
