TN: Myattsfield Joseph Myatt Reserve 2011

Post by Waiters Friend »

The composition of this wine changes each year. In 2011, it's a Cabernet (85%) Shiraz (15%).

Deep purple in colour. Cedary oak complements the dark fruits (black plums, blackcurrants) on the nose, and there's some cloves and cocoa as well. The palate is quite concentrated, while also being fresh and vibrant. There's a good balance of primary fruit and some savoury developed characters. Tannins are fully integrated, and the wine finishes quite long.

Still youthful, and should improve a little more over the next 2-3 years, and hold after that.

Cheers

Tasted again a couple of years ago, as part of a vertical: http://forum.auswine.club/viewtopic.php?p=1 ... 11#p164988. The note then was:

2011 Joseph Myatt Reserve: Cabernet Sauvignon 85%, Shiraz 15%, 12 months in new French oak barriques and hogsheads, 14.8% alc. The nose is expressive, with coffee, coconut, blue and red fruits, smoked meats and iodine. The palate shows more of the rich red and blue fruits, with integrated drying tannins, and some cinnamon and clove. There’s plenty of acid keeping the wine fresh (but not dominating) and the wine finishes long.

Tasting my final bottle tonight. There's still coffee on the nose (and some chocolate has crept in) alongside the red and blue fruits, which are now well developed. Iodine and smoked meats are no longer noticeable. The palate is still rich and vibrant, and the chocolate adds a touch of sweetness. The tannins have softened considerably, and there's still some of the spice characters that were present previously.

Not likely to improve, but still looking very good indeed.

Cheers
