Quick heads up

Post by rens »

I went to my local big box retailer yesterday and saw magnums of Marqués de Murrieta reserva for a reasonablish price and grabbed one for the cellar. It was inside a nice wooden box that was shrink wrapped in plastic. I got it home and took the shrink wrapped plastic off the wooden bed and found the bottle had a weeping cork. No big deal, I’ll go back and exchange it. Went back and we opened my replacement before I took it home. Same issue! It was not until the fourth replacement that we found one that was not leaking. So if you do grab one, make sure you open it and make sure the cork is solid and not leaking.

Definitely one to share, so good on you for doing that

I recall a similar issue in the UK (albeit a different Rioja producer) where mature stock released via a national UK chain were stuffed more often than not.
