TN: Forest Hill Block 9 Shiraz 2014

Post by Waiters Friend »

Opened and decanted yesterday, then left after a couple of glasses as it wasn't showing much. Better tonight, and opened too young.

Deep purple black in the glass. Rich plums and dark berries on the nose, with some clove, vanilla and a little coffee. The palate has a good balance between the dark fruits (just starting to develop), acidity, grippy tannins and a little viscosity (back to mocha again). Good length and should be even better in another few years.

Cheers

Nearly 4 years since I last opened one of these, and still holding a few in the cellar. This is better than it was in 2019.

Purple in colour. Cedary oak is quite sweet on the nose, with some licorice, blue and black berries, milk chocolate and cloves. Then - pow - a strong entry on the palate, lots of licorice and dark berries (showing some development) with oak and acidity in support. Tannins are grippy without being clunky, and the wine finishes long and full.

Excellent now, and plenty of time ahead of it.

Cheers
