TN: Ashbrook Estate Chardonnay 2021

Post by Waiters Friend »

My first look at the current release. 2021 wasn't the best of vintages in Margaret River, and I will admit to approaching this with a little trepidation.

Yellow in colour, and only slightly lighter than the 2020 reviewed a few days ago. Juicy stone fruits dominate the nose, with yellow peach to the fore. Cedary oak is present, but very much in the background. This seems simpler than previous vintages.

The palate is fuller, and savoury oak sits well with the stone fruits. The wine is still juicy and fresh, but shows a little more complexity with the balance of fruit, oak and acid. Slight tannic grip adds to the appeal.

I'm a long term fan of Ashbrook Chardonnay, and I would suggest this is a creditable effort in a difficult vintage.

Cheers

Wine, women and song. Ideally, you can experience all three at once.
