TN: Rockford Rod & Spur Shiraz Cabernet 2012

Post by Waiters Friend »

Under cork, and removing the cork was a multi-stage process. 65% Shiraz and the balance Cabernet. I understand 2012 was a well-regarded vintage in Eastern Australia.

Crimson in the glass. Spicy oak and sweet ripe fruit are jostling for pole position on the nose. Ripe red plums, blackberry and mulberry fruits are showing signs of development, and the cedary vanillan oak complements this well.

The palate is showing a fair quantity of sweet ripe fruits, and here the oak and acid take on supporting roles. Reasonably mouth-filling without being overly heavy, and it has good tannic grip without supergluing the cheeks together. Good length and satisfying without being a huge wine.

Barossa with poise? Quite possibly. Good wine and I am glad I left them this long.

Cheers
Allan
Wine, women and song. Ideally, you can experience all three at once.

Thanks Allan, I have a few of these. Started Rockford horizontals from 2008. I always find this wine a delight. Often shows better than a young BP. Sounds like good for a few more years yet.
Cheers Craig
Tomorrow will be a good day
