I hope time is kind for the '17 Menzies. ATM it's a little green, harsh and a touch acidic. I love the wine, but at this stage no where near the quality of the '16. I have tried it half a dozen times now.
See Yalumba released the 18 this week, but at an eye watering $60

I'll wait for the inevitable discounts

A rare purchase for me these days, mostly just some more 'everyday' drinkers from a regular supermarket promotion.

2020 Cave de Saumur Saumur Les Nivierès Waitrose 3x
2021 Houghton Limited Edition Heritage White Blend Waitrose 2x
2021 Weingut Josef Leitz Rüdesheimer Magdalenenkreuz Riesling Kabinett Waitrose 4x
2015 Waitrose in partnership with Suduiraut Sauternes

Which will tide me over before I do a more specific order for some Portuguese and/or Italians that will be a little more focused on specifics that I want.

Interesting Craig, I tried one on the weekend and found it fairly generous in flavour and fruit. Really enjoyed it. I see someone commented on the wine front recently saying they got tomato characters. Maybe some bottle variation out there, don’t know.

Hi Dave, thanks. I am not suggesting that the 17 is a poor wine and yes I enjoyed it. I agree, bottle variation is there, tried two different bottles in successive days and one was full of acid and harsh green characters, the other better. However, 10, 12 and 16, which I have had a few times now are the picks for me. 2019 will be a belter. interestingly , had a 2019 Cigar last night, fruit profile is plush and rich. Yalumba are doing good things, but unfortunately prices are getting up there now.

Only picked up a few bottles at auction tonight

94 Baileys 1920 Block Shiraz - one of my favourites from way back
92 Durif, Morris - fond memories of the 98
05 Reserve Bin Riesling, Penfolds
04 serendipity sparkling wine, the lost block - 14 years on lees.

And 1 mixed lot that included 3 Bottles of Chandon Sparkling wine. Disgorgement is 87-1, so I presume it’s from 1987. Had a few older sparkles recently, but nothing this old.
This is my church, this is where I heal my hurts.

AJ, see that there have been a few Wynns centenary mags floating around...might have to get one
Ed, I know I am biased but the 2019 Wynns Red stripe is a cracker of a wine, the addition of Malbec to the blend has been a real plus, certainly fills out the palate.
Yes went for a sixer of the LB Clare Riesling.

Craig haven't purchased this since the 2017 vintage. Not sure why?

Anyway, how does this stand up against other Rieslings from the 2022 vintage? Always good value for money IMO.

The red stripe is drinking superbly too, very happy with it. Will go the distance too I suspect, although probably won’t last that long.
