The Wine Magazine

Post by Waiters Friend »

G'day

I've been a subscriber to Gourmet Australia WIne Magazine since the first edition 25 years ago. In fact, I have the first 120 or so print issues available to anyone in Perth who wants them - swap for a decent bottle of red. I went digital a year or two ago.

However, following the December email announcing the new edition, on logging in, I was advised my subscription was up for renewal. However, none of the links to do so work - I get the message "Hmmm… can't reach this page. Check if there is a typo in thewinemagazine.com. If spelling is correct, try running Windows Network Diagnostics."

I've tried to locate the site online a few times since then, and the magazine seems to have disappeared from the web.

Any other subscribers having the same issue? Or is it just me?

Cheers
Allan
Wine, women and song. Ideally, you can experience all three at once.

Was the full history on-line? So my winning 'New Wine Writer' article from 14 years ago might still be there?
Although I read something about the magazine being in financial difficulties recently - a split with the GT banner brand or something?

Yes Graeme, Bauer media if I recall, was split off or brought out.
I too like Allan have the first 20 years in print and then stopped purchasing, largely due to irrelevance and arrogance and very much focus on the eastern seaboard. I would probably take a bottle in exchange, or like many things these days, they can contribute to landfill.
AGTW lost its way when it was trying very hard to be all things to all people, I am sure there are some punters out there who appreciate an 8 page spread on what's hot in Chilean wine, but I can do with out it. Equally how to cook quail ten different ways didn't capture my interest either. Ironically, GT covers both, so is there really a need for a wine mag?

What really got my goat was that SA supposedly is the wine state, there are journo's from SA who contribute, yet try getting any function held here. I first emailed and then followed up with written correspondence to the editor...and all I got was crickets.

I get all my wine info from sites like this, and from other blogs that I am on...certainly don't need AGTW.
Cheers Craig
