Seppelt Mt Ida Shiraz 2012

Post by Waiters Friend »

Who would have thought Victorian shiraz would be so well built? Not this Western Australian, anyway.

Deep crimson. A nose redolent of spices, tobacco, fresh plum and raspberry. The palate is balanced, with a textural richness coming from the tannins and the fruit. Full bodied, long finish, and flooding the palate. Delightful now, and I am glad I have a few bottles left to look at in 2, 4, 6 years.

Cheers
Allan

I had a 2004 Mt Ida not all that long ago. Man they were good wines. I can't wait to get some more. Not only are they good with some age, you can also drink them relatively young.

At 10 years old, this is still looking very good indeed. A little plum pudding, some mocha, cloves and dark fruits over savoury oak. Firm but integrating tannins and good supporting acid. Great length and mouthfilling without being too huge. Lovely wine and still possibly improving.

Thanks for the note on this Allan. Have a sixer, bit of a Seppelts fan. I am tempted off the back of your note to leave them a bit longer.
Cheers Craig

I've got a couple left of this vintage from one of those "blind" orders from VinoMofo when it was a thing a bunch of years ago - $25 apiece. Drank one 5 years ago and it was lovely, so will keep holding the other 2. A step up from the old Chalambar shiraz, which I also love and is also very ageworthy.
