Yep...along with Bowen and Majella, great wines and annual increases of about 50¢ to a dollar. As I have said ad nauseum others need to take note.

Only if they can’t sell Craig?

It’s a weekly event almost. A corked old Aussie. Heard nothing when I emailed a photograph and willingness to post a corked wine back to an SA winery. I’ll call them today.

Wineries may feel hard done by but punters aren’t in great shape either. Most corked wine not sent back to wineries in my opinion. However a discerning wine lover, with a good sized cellar, may be carrying the greatest burden of all?

Unfortunately Barossa Valley Estate has changed hands and they don’t make Ebenezer anymore. A corked bottle won’t be refunded. I don’t feel this unreasonable.

I will be selling all my Black Pepper Shiraz at auction. Can’t stomach being responsible for the liability of TCA.

Yes agree in part Jamie. Many of us here have good connections/relationships with wineries re established buying history, multiple CD visits and so forth. So whilst my cellar is probably more narrowed than most, I haven't encountered too much trouble getting replacements.

Yes I suspect many punters see TCA as the cost of doing business and simply write it off. I'm not in the position to let $50-100+ bottles go down the sink, without a phone call first. Agreed that there's a time bomb waiting for me, with many Clare/BV/Coonawarra/Victorian wines that are faulty. Cross that bridge when I come to it I suppose.

I received a lovely email from Barossa Valley Estate, explaining the change of ownership and the fact some labels no longer made. I was happy with the phone explanation though I appreciated the email. I was offered a replacement wine which was well beyond expectations and unnecessary. What a lovely response. Thank you BVE. I declined the offer as I’d feel like a mug taking a replacement bottle for an issue they were not responsible for. Looking forward to visiting- I hear it’s a spectacular property

Can’t say it’s an enjoyable experience. Some times contacting a winery is more disappointing than opening a corked wine.

I always argued with expat friends who copped it on chin that if you don’t return a faulty, they’ll keep using crappy standards of cork. I see this a lot in Italy.

had a 2008 Greenock Creek AP block on Saturday . Pulled cork out and I was a bit concerned just looking at it. rather shabby looking thing.
One sniff of the bottle and it was happy days from there but I thought I was in for a sink tipper. The cork although cracked, split and showing way more liquid ingress than it prob should've, did the job . Had it since release in probs 50% passive / 50% fridge (13 deg) storage.
I think this was pre change back to screw cap and then back to cork era?
I'm a bit concerned for the other vintages around this time that are all under this' quality' of cork.

In contrast I opened a 2017 Sami odi assemblage last week and the cork was stunning. as was the juice.see pic. :D

A corked wine from one of the aforementioned wineries that replaced a corked bottle.

That’s two corked wines from three opened of same vintage! Should the consumer really bear this cost?

Really nice winery and I won’t bother to chase a replacement. I’m finding TCA with Australian wines far worse than some of the accepted conclusions drawn years ago.
