2003 Richmond Grove Watervale Riesling

Recent random auction purchase, bought 3 bottles for NZ$30 each.

Under screw cap and in absolutely pristine condition, lovely mid yellow / golden colour, nose of toast and limes. Fresh and lively palate with more citrus fruits. Good mid palate richness provides body and depth. No phenolic edge, no bitterness, no petrol. Clean and pure and long on the finish with an attractive stoney mineral quality. No signs of being from a hot year. Fresh and youthful but also showing lovely developed characteristics. A real winner and my auction QPR buy of the year so far.

Yes indeed and the screw cap editions from about the '98 to 2004ish were a line made for Vintage Cellars.

I love the "cellar for 3 decades" comment too. At 18 years in it looks like a pretty solid prediction

I think I have 98 to 05, will need to have a bit of a dig, cellar is overflowing...stop buying, start drinking!!

PS. the 2014-2020 Vickery Clare and EV editions John made for Hesketh wines, that I have in the cellar will last three decades too!

I remember these as some of the first wines I had when I moved to Oz back in 1998. Dan's had these and Tahbilk Marsanne at $7 a bottle back then. They were the days!!
