Brisbane Offline - Sunday 29 August
Hello Brisbane Forumites
Former regular offline attendee Luke W. will be in Brisbane and is available for a school night offline on 31 Aug, 1 Sep or 2 Sep.
In order to try to get some new faces along, can I suggest that we encourage forumites, rather than 'couples', to attend? Obviously if we don't get enough forumites, we can extend the invite to partners later (if they are still talking to us!).
Reply even if you are only interested at this stage. We are not an intimidating group and would love to have some new folks along. Please let me know if you have a preference for a date or location, and feel free to volunteer a theme.
Cheers

Re: Brisbane Offline - 31/8, 1/9, 2/9
31st Aug or 1st September or good for me. 85 Miskin St would be my pick, but open to somewhere new as well. I'll leave the theme to the majority....

If you had to choose between drinking great wine or winning Lotto, which would you choose - Red or White?
Re: Brisbane Offline - 31/8, 1/9, 2/9
Can't make the 31st but OK on the 29th, 30th or the 1st. Possible themes? Happy with 86 Miskin. What about Outstandings?

Just realised that I am probably out unless there are some border changes.

I was interested, however, I’m just over the border too.

Hi all,
I'm keen if it's the 29th or 30th. Miskin with Outstandings sounds good.

Re: Brisbane Offline - 29/8, 30/8, or 1/9
I've been told not to come to work this week. Not sure what will happen if the lockdown continues. QLD Govt being very unreasonable about the border. Their definition of an "essential" worker is a bit of a joke. I understand why the border has restrictions, but it is basically shut at the moment which is causing even more angst than this time last year. The total lack of cooperation between the NSW and QLD govts is getting almost laughable now.Michael McNally wrote:That's shit mate, sorry. Frankly, this is a national tragedy.

Don't want to get political, but the Qld Premier offered the NSW Premier 3 or 4 times to move the border further South temporarily (for the border checkpoints) and was told no. Sometimes common sense isn't that common.....JamieBahrain wrote:Frankly, this is a national tragedy.

Partisan state and federal politics is not going to be very resilient for the upcoming challenges of the century.
Lockdown isn’t so bad here. Walk to the beach or drive 50 to 100km within the LGA for some seriously beautiful hiking. Rural butchers and farm produce just wow!
Big issues being slow wine deliveries. I have been chancing it at auction and fear for a box that’s been in Sydney for a week. Surely it’s been pinched? However they blame COVID whereas the other three boxes arrived last week.
Back to the offline. My choice of the Outstanding theme would be old Vat 1. The only white? Have many of the reds with great age and I’d probably put in something a bit unique like a 1990 Keyneton Estate to make me feel old.

Ahh the old Keyneton Estate...what a cracker of a wine that was. Paid $5 for the '86 and think $7-8 for the '88 and '90 vintages.
If only Henschke still had something of that quality and at that price point .
Cheers Craig

If things change, which I highly doubt, I'd bring a Domaine A Cab and maybe a Rockford Sparkling Black Shiraz.

Re: Brisbane Offline - 29/8, 30/8, or 1/9
Okay so looking like it is firming for Sunday 29 Aug (most people indicated they were available that day) I am sorry but I think you are right ruling yourself out Ian and Jamie.
85 Miskin isn't open Sundays (or Mondays). Any other suggestions? I am happy to act as host if we can't find a suitable venue.
At the moment I think we have:
Luke - 2006 Jasper Hill Georgia's Paddock with a 2012 Tyrrell's Vat 1 backup
Me - 2010 Tally and/or 2008 Vat 1 (other options being 2013 Bin 0, 2008 Meschach, 2012 Noon Reserve Shiraz, some older 389s or St Henri)
Nick - By Farr Sangreal
Jarrod - TBA
Vovo - 99 Dead Arm
Any other joiners?
Looks like it will be pretty small with good wines.
Cheers

Apart from the border restrictions, this is sounding great thanks Michael. Put me down for a 2001 Signature, or I could do the 08 Meschach if you don't go that way.

Hi guys
Perry has suggested we meet at his place and eat and drink on his back deck. He lives at Wooloongabba. We could each contribute part of a larger share meal. He has said he can do targines, but I know he does great pizzas as well. What do u think?

Hi team
If you are happy doing this dinner privately on Perry's back deck, here are his suggestions mainly based on expediency given the little time we have left : Dinner at 21 Deshon St Wooloongabba for around 8 formumites starting at 6.30pm: Turkish theme, please volunteer for any Turkish food you can provide. Perry has said that he will do a targine, so we'll need entrees, breads, desserts, cheese boards. He has 8 good red and 8 good white glasses. Please bring a back up for your wines in case of the cork devil.
Call me on 0421305258 if you need to.

From what's left, I could do some cheese. One assumes the cheese does not strictly need to be Turkish
