2010 Cabernet Masterclass

Post by mjs »

A Masterclass tasting of 2010 Cabernet from around the world at NWC in Adelaide on Sunday 29 Aug. Should be good, COVID permitting, any other forumites going?

Lineup as follows:

2010 Penfolds Bin 169 Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon
2010 Château Haut-Bailly, Pessac-Leognan, France
2010 Wynns John Riddoch Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon * Langton’s Classified – Exceptional
2010 Mount Mary Quintet Cabernet Blend, Yarra Valley * Langton’s Classified – Exceptional
2010 Henschke Cyril Henschke Cabernet Sauvignon Blend, Eden Valley * Langton’s Classified – Outstanding
2010 Woodlands Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon Langton’s Classified – Outstanding
2010 Bowen Estate Cabernet Sauvignon, Coonawarra- Langton’s Classified – Excellent
2010 Bellwether Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon
2010 Brands Laira One Seven One Cabernet Sauvignon, Coonawarra
2010 Yalumba The Menzies Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon

Organisers also hoping for a Coonawarra Roadshow type tasting later in the day, but that is pending relaxation of current restrictions on space and seated only events. Fingers crossed, but impossible to know where SÁ is going to be in three weeks, given what’s happening elsewhere.

Malcolm, have been looking at this for a while. Definitely will go to the general tasting. Funnily enough, have 6 of the 10 Masterclass wines in the cellar.

Lucky you, I have only three of them, but from other vintages.

Probably way too young, much like all the others.

What an amazing line up. Enjoy!
If you had to choose between drinking great wine or winning Lotto, which would you choose - Red or White?

interesting that the masterclass of Cabernet around the World choses a Bordeaux that is 40% merlot IIRC.

2010 Haut Bailly is an incredible wine, but still absolutely tight as a drum. I hope they decant the day before!!!

The roadshow tasting was going to be the only roadshow event nationally this year, just one small promotional event for the area, now postponed. It was always popular in Melbourne for many years. Anyway, let’s hope they can stage the Adelaide event in a couple of months as they suggest.

Still looking forward to the Masterclass at NWC in a couple of weeks. It will be interesting to see the program for Cabernet celebrations in October, assuming that event goes ahead, there’s usually a Masterclass there. Couldn’t go from Vic last year and the Masterclass was scaled down as there were no international attendees, COVID is a bitch.

Adelaide is marching towards the Stone Age. I’m worried they believe in an elimination strategy until after the next election.

Can’t get to my cellar though more importantly can’t get my daughter to her school in Kensington. Was supposed to be moving there in a Sept. Fully vaccinated, could be COVID tested if need be but blah blah blah.

Hoping those in the SA wine industry doing OK. Perhaps sales are up as many driven to drink?

Ha, Jamie, aren't the local bottle shops putting up signs that say "Home Schooling Supplies Available Here" ?

The bottle shops in little 'ol Adelaide have never been busier, booze #1, toilet paper second.

As for the political bent, likely that Marshall will be a one-term premier. Shades of the national perspective when everyone was sick of the narcissist little Johnny and Kev got in.
Same in SA, 16 years of labour, people wanted change, didn't care who got in, as long as it was someone from the other side.

Marshall has been asleep at the wheel, could make great strides but won't.
Will be very interesting with Gladbags in NSW, will there be enough of the well heeled to keep her in next election?

The pandemic might keep them on the front page, and the public away from sports rorts, car parks, issues in Afghanistan, bushfires, but even the diehards have covid fatigue, so what's left?

Sorry to hear that Malcolm, but suspect is was due to a lack of ticket sales.

On another note, very sad day for me as my avatar will attest
The soundtrack of my life for more than 40 years, Beggars Banquet, Let it Bleed and Tattoo You will be on higher rotation than normal, as will be the great man's contribution to jazz.

Masterclass has been postponed till 21 Nov, there will be a roadshow on the same day!

Yes, vale Charlie. Saw the Stones at the Drive in ‘73, I was right up front at the stage, took heaps of photos of the band. What amazes me is that Keef is still alive and kicking!

Open your border and I’ll come too. Fully vaccinated since March and ready to help power along the SA economy which won’t be building any subs.
