TN: Lamonts Family Reserve 2008

Post by Waiters Friend »

G'day

The Lamont family is descended from Jack Mann of Houghton's fame. There's a couple of wines they make in the 'family' style (including a lightly coloured sparkling Cabernet Sauvignon) and Malbec. The blend differs from year to year.

Purple with crimson tinges. The nose is quite spicy with lots of vanilla and cloves, and some eucalypt. The fruit is quite developed, with juicy blackberries and blueberries. There's also some dark chocolate (also on the palate), and port-dipped cigars.

The palate is medium weight, with the dark fruits up front on the tongue. Tannins have integrated well, and the finish is medium to long. There's more palate weight than I expected.

In fact, at 12 years old, I was concerned the wine might be a little over the hill. It isn't, but is unlikely to improve further.

Cheers
Allan
Wine, women and song. Ideally, you can experience all three at once.
