TN: Coriole "Mary Kathleen" Cabernet Merlot 2012

Post by Waiters Friend »

I got a couple of bottles of this from a visit to this McLaren Vale winery about 4 years ago, and haven't looked at them since.

Deep purple in colour. Intense nose of dark fruits (blackberries, plums), almost leaping out of the glass. There's mocha / vanilla, a hint of eucalypt, and almost no hint of secondary characters (for an eight year old wine). The palate is rich and redolent with juicy dark fruits, and well supported by firm, medium grained tannins. The wine is medium to full-bodied, and finishes full and long.

This is a full, rich and satisfying wine, that has exceeded my expectations. While excellent now, it should have a long life ahead of it.

Cheers
Allan
Wine, women and song. Ideally, you can experience all three at once.

Thanks for the note Allan. I was reminded I picked up two bottles of the 2001 edition of this wine at auction some years back, and I thought I might just have a note on it. I recall being surprised how muscular it was at what turns out was 10 years old- digging through my old wine notes I find it was in July 2011 I opened the first bottle and I noted "drink now to 2016".

The other bottle remains (somewhere) in my Adelaide cellar. Might look for it next time I can get back there and hope I was conservative in my assessment!

There's a fine line between fishing and just standing on the shore like an idiot.
