Seppelt Mount Ida Heathcote Shiraz 2004

Post by Waiters Friend »

This is my first experience of a Mount Ida, and I think I am developing a strong liking for Heathcote shiraz generally.

Deep ruby in colour. A rich, satisfying nose of red berries (especially raspberry) along with some earthy notes, and a hint of chocolate and spice. The palate is silky with more raspberry over chocolate / mocha and is medium bodied, with fine dusty tannins, and a reasonably long rich finish.

A pretty good wine indeed. This won't be my last Mount Ida.

Cheers

Thanks for the note Allan, I have a few Mt Ida's going back to the days of when Tisdall owned the vineyards.

Absolutely cracking wines and along with the Benno, very underrated.

Thanks for the note.

Cheers

Nearly 6 years on from the last tasting note, but not the last bottle of this under-rated wine in that time.

It hasn't shifted all that much in that time. Red fruits dominate, but are supported by blueberries, and the chocolate and spices (clove, nutmeg) still remain. The raspberry is still there on the palate, and the texture remains silky with some tannic grip.

I have one bottle remaining, and should probably open it in the next 12 months. It's been interesting to watch this develop since 2014.

Cheers

Anyone had the 2002? Allan's note reminded me on had some buried away.
